I am the proud owner of a champion show longhaired standard dachshund. He also has his canine good citizen title and national obediance champion title. He has his master tracking title and master earthdog tital. he does flyball and agility. he knows 279 commands and the same number of hand signals. He Is a certified medical alert dog for me. He goes everywhere with me. He is soo obediant when he has his vest on on i give him the command "ok lets work". he puts all his natural hound instincts and doggie behavior on hold and focuses solely on me and does his job perfectly. I was wondering if anyone else has a doxie service dog or has herd of another one or actually seen one working
WOW. He is one awesome dog. I have never heard of any dachshund service dogs, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. He is just an all around great guy!!!!

And THAT is the great, all around utility dog that a dachshund can be. Congratulations on your very accomplished little man!
Wow! Coty is truly impressive!! And very nice looking, too. WELCOME! We love to hear stories and yack it up about our dachshunds.
I'm Sandi owned by our rescue, Bonnie, who is around 12 years old and who is a B/T Smoothie mini. We've had her in our lives for about 2 years now. Not a model doggy citizen but she came from a very hard life and is blossoming more every day. As a matter of fact, we had a new experience just today. She actually climbed into my lap and stayed there. This is a BIG thing for our Bonnie as she would only sit by my side before. She is an ex-mill dog and then was in a home where she was treated like a D-O-G, not even allowed in laps. She is visibly relaxing more and more every day.
Wow. That is impressive! Dachshunds are usually ruled out as service dogs because they are physically too small to handle obstacles that a larger dog could. Also, there is the whole stubborn streak, too.
The only dachshund service dogs I was ever aware of were two standards smoothies that were used in Italy during World War II to hunt out land mines. Both survived the war and were returned to their owners no worse for the wear. One of the two still had a penchant for trying to hunt for land mines in his backyard, though.
There was an rumour that in the late 1990s, the Atlanta Police department had at least one dachshund trained as a drug sniffer. The police would neither confirm or deny if they had one.
While our Zeke is not a certified service dog, he has been very helpful with our daughter who is autistic.
coty does alot of tasks for me and is the only certified dachshund service dog in the entire united states as of last month. I have been curious at to if there are other dachshund that are out there working but are just not certified. coty knows his job. he is always off leash and never leavs my side even when he is not working. he is the only dachshund in the history of the American Kennel club to master all events and compititions available to purebreed dogs. he is also the youngest dog to ever master them. I am VERY proud of my boy and want to say my other 2 dachshunds from the same breeder have their utility dog tital wich is one level under the highest which coty holds. I strongly reccomend their breeder for anyone who want a great dachshund. Her website is Dianesdoxies.com
That is awesome. Would love to see more photos of him he's a doll. How old is Coty? What titles does he have then, I'm guessing OTCH, Field Ch, Earthdog, Rally, breed Ch, agility? That is great, when I was showing my last standard longhair girl Jessie about 15 years ago she was close to being the first triple champion when I had to retire her due to her back. I suppose there have been more than one to achieve that since then!
The amazing thig abot him i hav been so busy with him since he was 6 months old . he is now almost 2 and alread OTCh, master earthdog, veriable surfice tracker, has won 3 best in shows, he competes in rally but just for fun. he does flyball on the side and same with agility
Love the photos of him that last of his face is just darling! What a great dog. What is his registered name, I will keep my eye out for him!
I believe his registered name Is Dreamin Out Loud. i named him that cause since i got him from the breeder he always made noises in his sleep so i thought it fit, ruthie is Curran's Kisses Don't Lie cause she only gives kisses to people she likes, stormy jr is Curran's Eye Of the Storm because his father is also named stormy hand his registered name is DeBord's Eye of the storm
I am one of the far flung members and live in Australia. The last photo reminds me of a black and tan version of Oliver at that age.
I have two long hairs Oliver (Chipal against all odds) a mahogany red and Amy (Chipal Miami Beach) she is a black and tan and some where in time Haillies dupleganger. Coty is a stunner.
keep us all posted on all your lots goings on.'

Don't forget Suzanne, the Civil Patrol volunteer who yipped at a German Submarine in Long Island Sound. She belonged to my grandparents.

On the Dachshund Circus there was a dachshund who was a search and rescue dog. She was featured in one of the earlier Dachshund magazine put out by Dog Fancy.
I think her name was Lechee and she and her owner Jo were from NC.

That's totally awesome and so heartwarming... very big achievement for both of you, congratulations! ;)
Very Impressive! And he reminds me a bit of what our Stormy (gone now for nearly 2 years) might have been like as a young dog (we didn't get him until he was 6). The earth dog titles are quite an accomplishment too. BUT...Aren't ALL Dachshunds Service Dogs? Yes, they service the whole world's population with their cuteness. Sophie really agrees with me on this one. :)
I am looking in to seeing if I can have my Layla trained/certified as a service dog. Mainly as a medical alert and nightmare interruption service dog. The reason being is I have recently been diagnosed with Narcolepsy with Cataplexy and our Layla has been waking me from hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis episodes and she has been letting me know when I'm about to fall asleep or that it is time for me to go to sleep before I hurt myself. She has been doing this naturally, without us knowing why. When the diagnosis came, it put everything together, even why Layla was doing what she was doing. How would I go about getting her certified as a service dog?
Patches use to alert me when my blood sugars got really low but she does not any more not sure why guess i was not aware enough to praise he and give her a really good treat too busy trying to get the BS back up I guess.
