Title: Puppies first evaluation
Post by: Kathleen on September 26, 2010, 07:33:52 PM
Well, we had our first puppy evaluation today, and have narrowed down the possible pick puppy to Cricket and Ladybug, so I'm putting Tango and Junebug up for sale.  It's going to be SO hard to say goodbye to those two.  Tango has my favorite temperament, and after Junie's health scare, I'm incredibly attached to her also.

As of today, Ladybug is likely the first pick, but Cricket isn't far behind and the ideal time to do a true evaluation is 8 weeks, so we'll look at them again in two weeks and then again at 12 weeks to make a final decision.   My friend agrees with me that either puppy is a true improvement in conformation over Millie, so Millie will be spayed after a few more shows with her daughter (to help her adjust), thank goodness.   Millie finally gets to just be a couch potato, as she's always wanted, and frankly, I'm praying I never have to do this again.  I have a whole new respect for the work and effort that goes into breeding a litter and would really rather leave it from now on to the true experts

I'm looking for true opposite type homes for each girl.  Tango is completely outgoing, fearless, energetic and adventurous, so she needs a family that will take her places and enjoy her zest for life.  Junie needs a homebody that will take her for walks, but otherwise just cuddle with her on the couch.  I find it funny that the two girls at the extreme personality poles are the two that will be placed.

Ladybug-she always sleeps with a toy-I have great pictures of her sleeping with a bobo, too.

Really?  I'd never heard that before!  I'm glad you told me-Winston's been playing with tennis balls for years.

Hmmm...it sounds like DeeDee and Patty would be the perfect owners for Tango and Junie.

They are so cute it literally brought a tear to my eye! They just make you melt!
Wish I had had Hallie at that age.

David I think Patty needs them both so they have someone their age to play with!  :angel4:

Home check?  You realize, of course, that you're the dream home for anyone's puppy?  I would never, ever have to worry that you wouldn't pay for veterinary care, or socialize a puppy.  If the world were filled with people like you, no dogs would be abused or abandoned.   Not that I'm trying to push you into getting one (I really want people to WANT a puppy before they get one)-I just could not let that pass without an incredulous "wha?"!

to all you find a doggy sitter and come over you might have to put up with a couple of spoilt dogs.
Roberta
Kathleen............stick to your guns send them to homes you want. Colleen who we got our pair of, calls a spade a spade, she don't like you or how you are with the pup or dog and you don't or never will get one of hers. When we saw Oliver we said we'd take him then, she said no, we were to go home talk about it, and she would ring later in the week.

Absolutely.  My sister wants one for my niece and nephew-and I won't sell her one, let alone give her one.  She doesn't take care of the animals she has-she certainly doesn't need another.  Of course, I didn't tell her WHY I wouldn't sell her one, but the fact remains-she's not getting one of these babies.  On the other hand, her brother-in-law I would.  He's got two pit bull terriers and they are beautifully trained and incredibly loved.  I agree with your Colleen-you know when someone is good with animals.

Gosh thanks Kathleen, that is HIGH praise, I didn't want to sound pompous that I thought I'd automatically be a fitting home. I wish I was in the market I'd take any of these little ones in a second. But if Roberta does decide she needs them special delivery, sounds like Dee and I are going down under. LOL!  :thumb:

This is why I don't breed weener dogs, I would end up with 25 of them.  I would never be able to part with them.
I do think that DD needs a sib for Hallie.

I'd be the same way, puppies coming out my ears! I'm sure it won't be too easy for Kathleen either.
I'd take one Patty but since you are taking 2...there won't be any left.

OMG, they are gorgeous! Yes, DD would be a wonderful home but I understand why she's not in the market right now. She and Hallie have a very special bond. In addition to that, Hallie can be taken so many places because she's such a good girl. If there were another one, someone would have to be left home - not fair to Hallie, who's been used to going - not fair to puppy, who needs the socialization. They have a good thing going.

Kathleen, at least there is an abundance of homes to choose from. I'm glad you are being picky about who gets them. Wish there were more like you out there. About a year and a half ago, I would be asking about one of them, for sure!

I appreciate that, Delia.  I actually have no homes for anyone yet, but I just started seriously advertising after the evaluation and it's just a matter of time.  They're such fun, I won't be too upset if it takes a little while to find them just the right home.

Delia put it perfectly. We're joined at the hip and Hallie's life style would go downhill if we added #2 and she would not enjoy having a sibling, she is used to allllll the attention. Plus I had 2 dogs at once before and I swore I'd never do it again, I didn't enjoy it as much as just one to dote on. But it sure is fun to windowshop and drool over your babies!!!!

Tango went to her wonderful new home today.  I thought I would cry, but I'm so happy with her new humans, I didn't.  I'm going to send them the link here so if they want to join, we can all keep up with her.

Aww - looking forward to Tango stories if her new petparents join us here!

Ahem!  Isn't Unca Mike planning to win the lottery so he can have a home for wayward dachsies?  I still hope someone will win the lottery and build the dachshund town we used to talk about on DC Wiener chat - the one with us in a huge quadrangle with a central gated backyard... sigh!  I can dream, can't I?
