Bonnie: I don't know. Haven't a clue. I sleep like a log all night and wake up refreshed.
Madison: Wake up Mommy! I'm squeakin' at you. I want down. I want up. I wanna dwink of water. I has to go potty. Weed me a bedtime stowwy. I wakeded you up cuz you were snoring and 'noring me. Mommy, you has wed eyeballs. Don't you get enuff sweep? Mommy?
Mommy: Huh? Oh hello there. I'm the mommy who is asleep on my feet. I swear this little ten pound dawg is going to be the death of me. Exhaustion I think. We've tried downers and she squeaks right through them. We've tried Melatonin. That helps Papa to sleep through most of it. I simply live for Saturday so that I can catch up on my sleep debt. Never had hooman kids, but now I kind of know what having a baby is like.......except my "baby" has been doing this for about a year. Don't "babies" learn to sleep through the night? I think I have a learning-impaired "baby". Seriously folks, if you have any suggestions for this sleep-deprived mommy, speak now or forever hold your pizza. Oh, never mind. I am tired and hysterical and do not know of what I speak. G'night all. I'm off to bed and it's barely dark out.
Tough love Patches learned super quick you wake mommy up too many times you get to sleep in your crate.I forgot what I was doing twice I growled at mommy when she was getting back in bed from a trip to the bathroom for her She knew I was awake cause she shined the flashlite on me so she would not lay on me.Boy I found myself in my crate in the living room so quick.Mommy does not say much if we Buddy & I are sick or something causes she knows its not our faults but scratching, chewing running around,or waking mommy up for something we should not wake her up for is a big no-no.We have to sleep by ourselves I have to be put in my crate Buddy has to go to the garage.Sleeping in the big bed is a privilege you abuse it you do not get to do it as for water during the night we do not get any water never have water goes in the water has to come out we drinks all our waters in the day time & evening before we's goes to bed we are just fine. We have a long potty break before bed Mommy says to us goes potty & you betters not wakes me up. We knows we can wakes her up if wes have to but everyone needs there sleep.Patches & Buddy
Part of the reason our pair sleep in their own bed next to my side of the bed. They can do whatever they like except get out of the house, as doggy door in the middle of the bush = not a good idea. so I maybe get woken once for pit stop and if one wants to go out THEY BOTH GO OUT-----------------MOMMY rules.
Or do the crate
:read2: Taking a page out of Cesar Millan's book(s, videotapes and personal appearances):
A tired dog sleeps: Can you make sure she stays awake from the time you get home until bedtime? Can you take her on a long walk, briskly if you can, before bedtime? Draining energy from her will at least help her sleep. And make sure whenever either you or your husband is home and up, keep her from sleeping. Take turns keeping her up - that'
Good luck. Guinness still sleeps 23.8/7 (6 min for la toilette, four minutes for eating!)
Auntie Karen :sunny:
Good thing you got that little adorable girl to entertain and hug you for all your hours of hardwork... ;)
Oh no!! Its hard being sleep deprived. I literally had a breakdown last week after being up for a full 48 hours straight when Porky was sick. Is there anyway you could crate her at night so you can get some rest? I also like Karen's idea of making sure she's tired at night.
I do the tuff love thing too. If Parker wakes me up or is nudging me that it's time to get up, he gets put outside for a potty break and then he goes to the crate. Of course I check to make sure he is not ill but I can hear a gassy belly, or heaving.
He figured it out very quickly.
dis is Parker: Momma is mean to me. Sometimes a pupper just likes to have a midnight pway time.
Danni's pretty good about sleeping through the night. Occasionally I will hear her get up and then go somewhere, which is fine, but when she comes back she HAS to wake me up and let me know she has returned. Sully Angel on the other hand refused to sleep in the big bed and took up residence by the bedroom door, no kitty's allowed in mom'a room(I am not kidding). But when he needed to go out he would sit by the side of the bed, chin on the mattress and stare at me until I got up. We didn't have a gate back then so mom had to get up, get dressed and walk him at 2:30 AM. Didn't mind at all since he was good about going quickly, it was February after all.
Have you tried Benedryl? Just thinkin...
sleep deprivation, that 's the WORST. I am afraid to drive when I get over tired.
Did you mention that she might being having some senility issues or is it just me? (being senile, that is)
Thanks all for your concern and advice. Here's our latest tactic to trick the Madderoo into sleeping.
Instead of feeding her at 5:15 pm, I'm feeding her a heavier meal at 9:00 pm. By the time we go to bed at 10, food is in digestion mode and she's happy and (?) drowsy (?) with a full tummy. I was planning on putting her in bed with me as usual, but she had other ideas. About 15 minutes before retiring, Maddie got a wild burst of energy and ran....well, trotted wobbly...running for her....into the bedroom and launched herself onto Bonnie's flat bed on the floor. Um, Bonnie was in the bed, under the covers. I just held my breath thinking that we could have a fight on our hands because Bonnie is normally very territorial about HER bed. Nope. Maddie dived right under the covers and the only thing I heard was Madderoo grunts and groans. No Bonnie growls. She settled in and that was that. She stayed there until around 2:30 at which time I took her out for a potty. Believe me, it was a treat to sleep until 2:30. She squeaked a bit after that but knows I'm serious with the squirt bottle. All in all, a good night for her. Hope tonight proves to be a restful one. I have tomorrow off, so at least I can sleep in if I'm up half the night.
Reilly gets up at between 4:30 and 5:30 nearly every morning for a potty pit-stop. I've gotten good at sleepwalking to the door, waiting patiently until she's done and then walking back to bed and going right back to sleep. Lately Millie's been waiting until Reilly's done, waiting abuot half an hour and then SHE needs to go too.
Oh I feel for you!! I used to be the same. Holly would sleep like an angel all night (she made up for that during the day lol) but Mr Tristan really HAD to tell me several times a night just how sad it was that he wasn't in the big bed. He'd wake me by staring at me - I'd wake to find him by the side of the bed staring into my face, if I tried to pretend I was still asleep he knew all about it too and would start very quiet whining. Arrrgggg. Finally I was just so tired I set up their bed away from my bedroom, in the utility room with a doggy flap. The first night was perfect.... Second night I woke to a sad whiny pup outside my bedroom window lol. However, by the end of the week the pair of them were taking themselves off to their bedroom at 10 and not a peep after that. Our routine is a potty stop right before bedtime and one little biscuit before I lift their quilt and they both snuggle in for the night. I can go in and out of the room and they just snore right through. I'm sure it was harder for me than for Tris when we made the change, I felt really cruel not letting him sleep in my room but boy what a difference it's made!! Ivy still initially gets out from the covers to glare at me but as soon as I go she creeps inside with Tris lol.
Did this latest tactic work? I hope so!
Danni sleeps in the big bed with me and is usually in bed, on my pillow before I even turn off the tv at 11 PM. In the morning I am up between 5 and 5:30, yes my internal clock never reset since I went on Disability, and as soon as Danni hears me move she's on me giving kisses and is ready to play. We go outside and then while I have my coffee Danni goes back to sleep. If I nap in the afternoon Danni crawls up on my hip and goes to sleep.
