Our sweet little Bayliss, or "Bay Bay" as we call him, needs some prayers! He's had an eye infection for more than 6 weeks now. I took him to our vet 3 times, and he just kept giving me different medicines. The only "test" he did on his eye, was look at under a black light. We've been going to this same vet for about 3 years, but I decided it was time to take him to get a second opinion.
The new vet did about 4 different tests. One big problem, he found, is that eye doesn't produce tears, so for the rest of his life I'll be giving him artificial tears everyday. The vet said, I can't do it too much. Part of the reason it hasn't healed b/c the eye can't clean itself. The vet called today, said he got results back on one test, he has some form of strep in his eye -- something I can't pronounce. When I get off work, got to go get the medicine. Put it in every 15 minutes for 2 hours, every 30 minutes for 2 more hours, then every four hours for... well I'm not sure how long. I don't mind doing it, I don't mind paying for the medicine I just can't believe our old vet! My husband and I have decided we'll NEVER go back there again.
So please pray for little Bay Bay to FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY get better and not be in pain anymore!
So glad you finally figured out what was wrong. Here's hoping the eye heals quickly! Your furbabies are adorable!
Rays on the way for Bayliss !!! Hope the new meds do the trick quickly !
I've had 6 eye surgeries in the last year, so Bayliss has my empathy, ouch! My eye surgeon told me to take flax seed oil for keeping the eye moist, and boy has it helped. My guys don't like the taste of the liquid, so I hide caps in peanut butter. May or may not help, but worth a try. Good luck.
I'm glad Bayliss is doing better. Dolly had an eye problem last year and the vet sent us to a doggy ophthomologist. The op scraped debris from her eye (all under a local) and her eye got better. Her left one started to do the same thing but fortunately the cyst that she had was small and healed on its own. The vet called her condition, a "non-healing ulcer" and $500.00 plus later. At least she's all better now.
Rays for BAYLISS!
I am so sorry to hear about your baby's eye problem. I know how hard it is for us as fur parents to deal with health issues!!! I am sending MEGA RAYS! And prayers that their is NO MORE PAIN!
Bayliss' eye is getting better. Not 100%, but better. He does get to be our special guy and sleep in the bed, though. So I can give antibiotic eye drops in the middle of the night without waking up the other boys. He is not a fan, but he better get used to eye drops, since we're gonna be doing this for the rest of his live with artificial tears. he better learn to love eye drops! :thumb:
I'm glad you found a vet who figured out what was wrong. Looks like you've got a good new vet!
I'm glad to you got a second opinion and I'm sending lots of positive thoughts and   to Bay Bay I hope he feels better soon.
