I must apologize for not being better about posting but the sleepless nights and worry finally caught up to me. Earl is doing good and showing improvement each day. Last Friday, I took him back to the vet as I was really worried about him....eyes were dull and he just looked at you and then he would perk up. When I called, they said bring him in right away so off we went. More xrays and checks were done and his gums were pink, his heart sounded good, his lungs were clear; he had some gas in his intestines. So, he received a pain/sedative shot which made him sleep until 9 pm Friday night. On Saturday, he was feeling much better, his eyes were bright and he moved better. Still slept most of the weekend, only woke up to go outside to potty and actually in the evening sat outside with us for a bit. He also was still being hand fed baby food and a high calorie/protein food from the vet and still taking his medications twice a day. On Monday, he explored a bit more outside and when I fed Sarge and Duggie, Earl appeared looking for his food! On Monday, he started to eat on his own....well with us holding him upright while he ate and for 30 minutes afterwards! He knows the routine and while not happy that we are holding him up, he is cooperating with us. We are going to make him an eating/waiting stand (while the food travels down).
Today he went in for a recheck, and the doc was amazed at how much he has improved since last week. He is extremely happy with his progress and did say today, that he didn't think we would be where we are today. He said everything was looking good. Earl will be on baby food and the high protein food for a bit longer along with his medications. He goes back in on July 5 for a follow up on his progress. So all those powerful WW rays and prayers worked and are still working! Kari and Drew have provided me a name of a person who has a doxie with the same condition as Earl and I plan to get in touch with her. Thank you Kari and Drew! And, thank you to all for your donations, prayers and rays for Earl! We truly are humbled and send our love to all! Here are some pics of the Earl-man:

Continued prayers coming your way!! I can't imagine how exhausted you ALL must be!!! Its great that he is showing some improvement. I'm sure it will help a lot to be able to talk to someone who has been there with their doxie. Try and take care of yourself too. :comfort:
He is really beautiful, Dee, and I will keep Earl in my prayers.
Love the first one with his nose all scrunched up. Looks tuckered out.

We are so happy he is making progress. After you have his waiting stand made, you should post a picture. Healing doxie rays are still on their way to Earl from the Gang.

Way to go Earl and Mom and Dad!!! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: Don't apologize about not posting Dee, you've all been through so much, and it's just good to know that you've been able to get some rest. Earl's progress is awesome! As you said, the dachsie rays and prayers are working big-time, and we're definitely going to keep them going! I'm so glad that Kari and Drew have been able to put you in touch with someone who's dealing with the same challenges, it will be a great source of encouragement. It's so good too to have these pictures of Earl --- he looks good, just a little tired. Poor little guy is probably sick of feeling sick, but he's coming around! We'd all love to see pictures of the eating/waiting stand when you have one for him. I noticed on a support group website (www.caninemegaesophagus.org) pictures of a Bailey chair but I'm sure Kari's and Drew's contact will be able to help you with plans. Thanks for this wonderful news today; please keep us posted as you're able!
So glad to hear the good news on the Earl-man. Hilde and I are still sending up our southern comfort healing rays for him. Would love to see a picture of him when you get his stand made. It should be very interesting. Continued good luck with the Earl-man.

I'm so glad to know he is feeling better. Rest is a good thing for you, too. At least now you are starting to formulate a plan and that is important. I'll keep the prayers and rays coming for that cute little one (who doesn't look like he could destroy a thing!).

Ya know, you gotta wonder, Guinness. :dontknow: Maybe when everyone's feeling better we can find out if the doctor has an opinion on it. Some research I've found says that it
may be associated with obstruction by a foreign object. If so, it might have moved on by the time the x-rays were taken but already caused a problem. Chair stuffing is about as foreign as an object can get, and the Earl-man likely swallowed bits of it accidentally. You gave Earl the best advice --- stay away from upholstered furniture...
