Title: Trying to get weight off your Dachshund ? Idea from Doberman Talk.
Post by: papbouv on June 20, 2010, 10:32:44 AM
what about getting him swimming in the bathtub for some calorie burning fun?
Get one of those tub chairs, your dad can sit in it while keeping the dog steady in the water.
Low impact, high energy work out that can be done no matter what the weather....

Was an idea sent in for a 80 year old man's over weight terrier.

That is a great idea Papbouv! I don't have a bathtub anymore I'm more of a shower person but I'll bet it would work in a kiddie pool too with our short dawgs. Hallie has the life jacket all ready, now we just need temps higher than 53 degrees so she doesn't get hypothermia! The weather is nuts!  :idiot:

That's a wonderful idea, also to make dogs love water, too!

Someone just opened a doggie pool in my town. You can come during different times and let your doggie play and swim  with other guys, i thought it was a great idea!

Aunty had a great idea for getting the weight off Twinkie after Nancy broke her leg and was in a wheelchair.
She took Twinkie's bowl of food and threw each piece across the room and Twinkie had to go get it to eat it.  She lost weight really well!!!!

OMG, I tried this with Murphy about a year and a half ago.  It was a really cold winter and I wanted him to get some exercise without having to freeze his little buns off outside.  He was less than thrilled.  I may have mentioned on the lifejacket thread that Murphy panics and freezes in water and sinks like a stone?  Well, if you hold him up, he thrashes around and makes a lot of waves which results in...a lake in the bathroom.
