It's back to the vet today for Earl. The little guy is still having problems so I'll call at 7 am to get him in. There is definitely a problem with his digestive/esophogus system. He is still chipper and happy and acting like normal 95% of the time. But he has continued to have some projectile two yesterday and one this morning. Truly projectile.....no retching like normal throwing up. Lots of groaning before it comes......then whammo. It's up and out and he goes on his merry way of tail wags and being happy. He is not lethargic....no other signs of not feeling well. I'm not sure what the next step is going to be.......I know he is sleeping good.....I'm not.....so we could use some rays. Thanks all.......I'll keep yo all posted. dee
We had a very similar experience with Parker when he ate duck poop. eewwwww.
He was on IV fluids, medication to soothe his stomache and gastro soft food.
It took him about a week to recover (and over $1,000 from my wallet). After that we got pet insurance.
I sure home Earl gets feeling better soon. No fun having a sick pupper. Too much worry. Take care.
How old is Earl ? had a Bouvier that developed Mega esophagus when he was young had it all of his life some that have it do not do well some due. extream case:One lady out in California had a Lab with it she tube fed him for his whole life he lived to be about 10years old he never had food or water by mouth the whole time allot of vet visits he was the star at UC Davis for many years. They check for it by doing a Barium swallow Jake my Bouvier that had it ate dry dog food from a stand but he had trouble with water. Hope the vet finds out what Earls problem is soon and it is not serious Rays & Hugs to Earl.
Oh no, mega rays and prayers on the way for Earl and an undoubtedly worried Mom and Dad too!!! :comfort:
huh. weird. Hope the little booger's okay. Hugs for all :comfort:
We are back home! So, today, it was more xrays to get today's view....much improvement over Monday's views. No blockages anywhere and the esophagus looks good. We saw the veteran doc today since we got in first thing. The doc said no blockages and the blood work looked good and when poked, no problems there, temperature was normal. Doc said we will treat as acid reflux/possible irritation/ulcer. He said if it was blockage in the esophagus, the projectile would be immediate not over three hours later. So, this morning, Earl got a anti-nausea shot, and he will also be on amoxi-tabs, a coating of his inners pill (anti-acid), and anti-nausea pills (this pill starts tomorrow, since he got the shot today). Nothing for two hours (which is driving Earl nuts because he wants a drink of water)....no water. The shot takes about two hours to kick in. So he has to wait until at least 10:15 a.m. No food until later today......fingers crossed that this will help Earl get better!
Papbouv, Earl is about 18 months old. He was the pupper that somebody just dumped on our road on Thanksgiving weekend. We literally rescued him from the elements of the weather and took him in. With his brothers, they are living in luxury! dee
Hope Earl is a happy camper by now drinking water and feeling much better more Rays & Hugs to you both & sleep too.
Sorry to be late checking back in... how is he doing today? Bless your heart - what an ordeal..... Earl sure hit the motherload when he found YOUR driveway that winter day.... :comfort:
