Title: Salem Dog Days
Post by: Dee Dee and Hallie on June 03, 2010, 11:31:25 PM
Hallie and I went to Salem, Oregon yesterday and set up a booth with my art and photography. Lots of cute dogs there Hallie had a blast! It was really fun taking photos of adorable but untrained pets, hilarious trying to get them to stay on the table and do any kind of dignified pose. Hallie loves to model so we played in between customers.  The little dog that won "dog of the year" was a darling little wire doxie girl, the prize she won was one of my dachshund prints so her Mom was happy to get a doxie prize.

Teehee - you expected some other breed to win?  Go, Hallie - as always, great shots!

Hallie is looking just gorgeous!  You do fine work, DeeDee!  And the training on posing is incredible too--kudos to you both on this joint venture!  Hallie's eyes are so clear--that is a difference from Sophie.  Her cataracts are becoming more prominent, and the eye not nearly as clear.  Her "far" vision is still good, but her "near" vision is getting worse.  She needs bifocals!

You can see the poof of hair on the top of her little butt in the first shot, when she was shaved a couple of years ago for the back surgery she ended up not having, that big patch grew back even softer than the rest of her hair and it stands up funny.
Hee yes it was pretty neat a wire doxie won the print, there were over 40 dogs entered. I was supposed to judge but there were too many customers at my booth to leave so thankfully they got someone else I don't like judging and they would have thought it was rigged if I'd have picked a doxie! The little one that won was wearing a very fetching pink ensemble.

Deb the years have just gone by way too fast haven't they!!! Hallie's eyes may look clear but I take her to the opthmologist every 6 months to keep an eye on 2 small cataracts she has started also. Thankfully the last visit, they hadn't changed from the time before, she said they can remove them if they get real bad but they like to wait if possible. Her iris atrophy hasn't seemed to have gotten worse either, it is very noticable in certain light though (you do have to look since her eyes are dark). I saw the first real sign of diminished eyesight the other day, I was in the garage loading the van with the stuff to take to Salem and she was outside in the doorway, there is 1 step going into the garage which is the only step I let her do sometimes as it's not real high and 95% of the time I carry her in anyway, and she was at the base of the step all gathered up to jump (normally she just goes up the step easily) and was bobbing back and forth with big eyes it was obvious she couldn't quite see into the garage well enough to know where she was going to land. It is real dark in there but still she's never done that before, and she actually hasn't done it since, but I know her sight isn't what it was and I see signs of her hearing not as good also. Do you notice that with Sophie? Is she as white as Hallie is would love to see pics of her and Sam!

Here are a couple pics we took at the festival, first is Norman half pit half american bulldog, sweetest dog, his Mom is a vet (they look younger all the time) and does acupuncture so Norman got a treatment at the festival for people to see. He seemed to love it.

Second is Riley an adorable little Shih Tzu who was a bit nervous with all the hub bub but he did a really good job keeping his composure of the shoot.

Third is Trinity and Bennica, mother and daughter yorkies sporting the newest in spring canine fashion.

Great Dee Dee, I have trouble getting dogs I know to sit still. But my favourite of the other posers is mum and daughter, my take is mum to daughter " Now dear just sit still for once and the nice lady will take our photo"

LOL that is exactly what it looks like they were saying. I'm not too sure they were all that proud of their outfits or not.
Hallie was probably saying "Stop Mum! Only take pictures of MEEEE!!!" I think she was a little jealous of me messing with the other doggies even though I kept going over to her stroller to kiss her constantly.
I am doing another photo shoot this fall at a wiener dog race, so there will be lots of doxies there, that one will be really fun!
