Met a trainer yesterday who has imported black and tan poodles from Germany. Thought they were very cute they also have natural tails. "Almost" like long legged doxies!

Where did the tan come in at???looks like pure blood poodle wonder if there is a Dachshund in the mix some where down the road.I would think if you breed a black poodle to a tan poodle you would get the party color poodle ??? not a poodle with tan points and legs.
They are purebred poodles, she competes with them in agility, strange huh! Poodles can come in several colors like parti and brindle also, from what I understood, "Phantom" coloring in poodles have the color pattern of a black and tan (eyebrows, nose, throat, legs, etc) which includes black and tan but can also be other pairs of colors together (silver, apricot, etc). So black and tan falls under the "Phantom" category. It's not a desirable color here in the US so you rarely see it but in Germany, they have their own registry for the color. I think they've been around a while just not so much over here. Only solid colored poodles are accepted in AKC.
OK I just googled it here is a good page if you are interested

They also come in "abstract" and "tuxedo"...
the red is pretty!
Now don't get me wrong, because I know that poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds and I love the look of a black or white or silver poodle. But black and tan?? Parti?? This is not an esthetically pleasing color. :dontknow:
Sorry to rain on the parade, but there it is.

Well being a bit of a "black and tan" fan, anything black and tan looks adorable to me, even in the poodle model.
Very unusual looking-I've never seen a pointed poodle. Points are recessive as well, so it may well have come from waaaay back in one line and then popped up with the right matchup.
