Title: Zeke Versus the Robins
Post by: David C. on May 10, 2010, 06:08:28 PM
I let the Zs out for their final potty break before going to work this morning.  In the yard, I noticed a robin with her fledgling in the grass.   I was hoping the Zs wouldn't notice.   Zora, of course, dutifully did her business and came back in, ignoring the birds in the yard.  Zeke, though, decided to take a run at them.  As he charged, both mama and baby scattered, with the baby flying up to the railing on our deck.

Once the yard was clear, Zeke began to head inside, but he was headed for the deck, right where the baby bird was.  Mama robin would have none of that, she made repeated dive-bombing runs on Zeke, doing wingovers as she pulled up and circled around for a repeated runs while Zeke began to beat a hasty retreat to the house.  I don't think poor Zeke had ever experienced anything along those lines.

Of course, once he got back inside, he spun around 180 degrees and went into his "tough guy" pose, wanting to go out and have another crack at it.   Nope.  Not today, I commanded him back to his crate, which he followed and snoozed down for the day.

Zeke is hilarious.   He is definitely "all bark".   Once in a rare while, he actually follows through, but most of the time, he either retreats if he sees that his subject is not impressed by him, or he pushes on and it ends up badly for him, like when he tangles with a C-A-T.    He seems to forget cats have telescoping arms!
