So.....the apartment we moved into last October is on the second floor. There is a door to the stairs right by our door, but when we take the dogs out for a walk we put collars and leashes on and go down the long hallway to the elevator and then go outside. After our walk, in the elevator on the way back up to the second floor (there are 4 floors in the building) we usually take the dogs collars and leashes off and let them RUN down the hallway back to the apartment (nothing funner to watch than a doxie racing with his ears flipped back....)
I took Kirby out for a walk (Sol was busy gathering shrapnel so he'd have something to growl about the rest of the night) and when we got on the elevator after, I took his collar off - but then a group of people came running up and got on the elevator. I was worried he would go all VIPER DOG on them but he was fine. Doors close, we start going up. So the doors open, we are on the 4th floor (DUH, in the hustle I forgot to push 2) the people get out and then it dawns on me - PUSH 2. DUH. So the elevator starts moving, and I look down - NO KIRBY. He is so used to racing when the doors open he jumped out and I never even saw that happen!!! So I am freaking out, trying to get the elevator to move faster (WHY DIDN'T I THINK ABOUT TAKING THE STAIRS???) And I can hear him barking....I was really panicked, not sure why - I think I had a feeling that someone took him? When I finally got to the 4th floor, the elevator is in the middle of a "V" hallway - do I go right, or left???? So I call his name....and he comes FLYING down the hall at me - ears flapping, tail wagging - no worse for the wear, and thinking that it was a really fun game.
This is why they own US, and not the other way around. :verdict:
Awwwwww, hims had a little adventure !!!! Whew, bet your heart was beating a mile a minute
He was probably thinking...where did mom go?!? Such a cutie pie!
Gee some one could have taken him I learned not to take leashes off with my last Bouvier, got into the habit after our walk at the park take the leash off and tell him porch. He would go get on the porch he was a big guy 28 1/2" at the shoulder about 110#.I did not see the jogger going down the street but Jake did he circled around to get between me and the jogger who had dog sense and he stopped Jake was barking at him.I called Jake he came and sat in front of me like he was suppose to I hastily put his leash on told the jogger I was sorry. Now never take the leash off until in the house and the door is shut.
Glad your Fur Kid did not get caught in the elevator doors or worse things could have happened glad all is ok and everyone made it home safe.
Kirby probably thought it was a new game. He is a gorgious colour.

Oh man I got light headed just reading about it! You poor thing you had to have been frantic! Now that it's over and all is well it's pretty funny to picture him up there waiting for you and then come running. Hallie thinks it's pretty cool the boys get to ride in an elevator to go out and do their bizzness!
Good grief! I can just see you trying to make the elevator go faster. All the while, Kirby is having a lovely adventure. Sounds like he's very obedient to come flying back to you when we saw you. My Bonnie is good at the O word. Maddie, um,......well, that's another story.
Whoah, you should be so proud of that little brave guy, bless on letting you worry about him but he did really great with his little adventure.
Aw i can imagine how terrifying that would be! Finnegan is NEVER out of my sight.
