Title: rats!
Post by: Brekkesmom on April 28, 2010, 11:56:12 PM
Well - yuck!  I found a dead one in the back yard yesterday - and my remodeller threw it over the fence for me.  I found another this afternoon, and did the same thing with it, and later this evening - around 6:45, as I let the dachsies out, I saw something brown in the grass in the same general area - but it moved!  Rowan bit it and it squealed, so she made a circuit with it, then Bastian talked her into letting him have it, and there were more squeals.  I told him to put it down, but then he practically had the whole thing in his mouth!  Finally, I got him to drop it, and seeing it was well-masticated, I pitched it over, as had been done with the other two.  I cannot say what did in the first two, but this evening, it was rat - 0, Rowan and Bastian - 1!  (For those of you keeping count, Brekke got her bunny a few years back - the one almost as big as she, and this past Sunday, she got a sparrow.)

Dear Dr. Pied Piper Leaky,
We are pretty sure we have this problem now because there is a year-old supermarket behind us.  It is a Mexican market and the little deli cooks with lard, so I am sure that is part of the attraction for rodents.  Thanks for the offer. but apparently my crew thinks they know how to deal with this infestation - so far!

:book1: AHEM . . .

You're quite welcome.  I must confess my pan pipe playing IS a little rusty, so it's good to know that you are on alert and can handle the problem.  If los ratones end up as dinner, they taste delicious with refried beans, salsa and an icy cold Corona!

I recall meeting a Hungarian family back when I lived at my condo.   They told me the Hungarian word for dachshund (and unfortunately, the word escapes me), literally translates to "rat catcher".    So, it sounds like your puppers are living up to their name.

We briefly had a rat in our condo building.  Surprsingly, it was never spotted in any unit where people had dogs.  Rudy-angel, though would hear it in the walls and just stare at the wall, as if the rat would come out right there.   Somewhere along the line, this rat did lose its tail...perhaps to one of the puppers.

Scallywag was a master rat killer.   We actually had one get stuck in a trap and escape.   There were a set of bloody footprints that abruptly ended in the MIDDLE of the room.  I looked over at Scally and asked her "Scally?".  She just looked back at me and thumped her tail.

Icky!  Icky!    I'll raise you a possum for two of your rats.  Not really.  You can keep yours AND I'll send you mine.  YOU WIN!

Oh yes - they do the Killer (to the tune of "Thriller") dance each time somedog catches a varmint!
As of 5/8/2010, the count is dachsies - 6, rats - 0.  All 6 have gone back over the fence - I figure if the grocery store is on to the pest situation, they can clean 'em up!

I would lose it if Finnegan killed something.
A) i cannot touch anything dead. Not even a bug. So gross. Cant deal.
B) Im very emotional and even a dead rodent would make me cry.
C) This dog licks my face. Alot. Without notice.
