Title: Tris and Ivy a question
Post by: Roberta on April 12, 2010, 09:35:55 PM
how does your mum say NO, ours sort of does a down then up at the end. Mum says its a Scottish thing, dad teases her when she tells us of by saying "save us from the NOOOooooooooooooooooooo's" he also tells her not to get angry as she talks faster,  and he cannot understand what she says after the first few words. Let me tell you that does not go down well or should that be doon weel. Mum tells him she has a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng memory.

Hi Roberta,

Tris here, well I hav no first hand experiance of mum saying no to me of corse but she DOES say it alot to dat baby dog Ivy.

Ivy da gweat heer, yeppers momma alaways sez NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO but she has difrent ways ov sayin it. Wen she is bery mad wif me she sezs it wike a bark, so like wen I'z just gettin comfy for a wee on da nice carpet she barks IVY NO atta me and it gibs me a fwight I dozent wike it. Wen momma discobers sumfing I'z been an dun a wile ago she sez "Ivy nooooooooooooooooo" but dat no is the same lebel from start to finnish and duz take a wong time to say. Sumtimes wen she is bery bery mad she duzent eben bodder wiv da no, she jus says IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVYYYYYYYYYYY like dat and it sounds like IIIIIIIIIIVeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaa an is abit growly at da end. Wen i'z bizzy doin sumfing she sumtimes sez NO bery kwikerly erm wike wen I'z gotted one of momma's fings for a choow. Den she is bery mean and duz take my fings away dat I'z claimed to choow on.  Da ownly time momma eber sez no to Sissy Wissy Trissy is wen he is twying to stik his hed on her plate ov fuud, she is bery gweedy and duzent share wiv uz eben doh we iz starvin hungery all da time, wen she sez it to Twistan she sez ..oh wizzy no don't do that my little precious prince of a boy... He duzent eber do dat much doh so mebbe wen he woz a baby he got NO'd more dan me eben???

Momma's pardner Simon sez he cabnt unnerstand her wen she speeks but he is ownly pwaying wiv her but wen he ventooly duz sumfing bad she will tell him NOOOO to I fink and wen he is eber bery bad she will speek bery fast AT him and say NO a lot!

It must be a Scots thing ´cos our Mum does it too; she doesn´t say yes, but Aaaaha instead, sometimes ach wail.   She gets ratty when southerners and foreigners ask her a question again and again when she´s already answered with an aaaaaha.....it´s a good job we´re multilingual and we know what she means.

Amy  here, furgot youz mum wuz foreign to. Mum once heard a kiddie asking its mum was she born with that speach defect!
Probably why she calls me a "wee sweetie pie" and Oliver a sook
Yes she also gets narkie when asked to repeat what she says in shops or presentations, she often tells those people she came from closer to the English border than they do.
Ivy Mum also has diffrent NO's would'nt think there were so many intonations in a two letter word, from experience Wee one you MAY grow out of the need for the NO"S.

Her other saying is "DON"T even think about it" and "EXCUSE ME" when we don't do as we're told.

My mom says "aah-aah!" to me instead of "NO", on the rare occasions when I am doing something I shouldn't.  Which, really, I never do anything I think I shouldn't, but she has her silly rules and seems determined to stick with them.  *SIGH*  It is very difficult to be a small brown dog, sometimes.

My mom also says all this talk about Scottish talk has made her miss Scotland and want to go back.  She's been talking about it ever since visiting last year; she says it's one of the prettiest places she's ever been...

What a great thread this has been to read!! Gail, I think Ivy needs to write a book. It might possibly pay for your things she has damaged!! I love reading what she has you write for her in the mornings. It always starts my day with a smile.
I'm going to tell Schatzi that I need to make her No's more interesting. Maybe the reason she ignores them so much is they are just too boring!

Yeah this topic is pretty interesting that "No's come in many ways! Imagining those facial reactions with firm "no"..
