Title: OLiver back at vet-we have an answer
Post by: Roberta on March 16, 2010, 10:47:51 PM
 He has Tonsilitis  :ambulance:.
This morning when we walked his panting was raspy, and he was rubbing his ears, did the google thing and got every thing from upper resp to the big C, so read PANIC.................made vet appointment.
I went to a group I go to, and someone said hahaha her daughters dog had tonsilitis...................bells and lights went off      :idea1: :sign13:          . got home googled canine tonmsilitis, sure enough
licking lips, not happy to eat, smely breath, lethagic, and sore ears.
I said to Albert (yes uncle albert if you are of the Beatles era) I think its Tonsilitis...............explained the past week, took one look at his throat and said right on the money. He has very swollen tonsils and his larynx is white. So one shot of cortisone, and another of antibiotics and two weeks of oral antibiotics. He sadi he will feel a lot better by to-morrow.
Cause:- barked himself stupid last Friday, then we have had massive burn off's all around us, to avoid wildfires next summer, so we have smoke most evenings and nights that are pea soupers, so we close up the hosue, and as we are having  a hot spell  we put the air on which dries his throat. So it is a combination. He is now resting and I can stop stressing, and Amy is doing the nursie nursie, mainly by tryong to help him eat his meals.

Ohh poor baby! Sore throats are awful...Im glad you got an answer though and it could have been a lot worse things!  :thumb: I hope that antibiotics kick in fast. My poor Fred (dane) had to have his tonsils out the vet said he had double tonsils on one side and triple on the other...??? It wasn't an easy operation for him. Glad Oliver will be well on his own! Give him a bit of ice cream for me, liver flavored or a ham smoothie!

Glad he's doing better and it was an easy fix. I'm with most of this crowd - never heard of canine tonsilitis. Poor baby.

Glad you have a answer and he will be feeling better soon.I heard once along time ago  that if some one has Strep throat in the house make sure the dog does not have it either can be passed back & forth?not sure how true that is.

on reading I think its an urban myth, as it said most doggy tonsilitis is bacterial. To-day he got his first raw hind chew for a week, and seems to be OK.Only one more week of antibiotics.
