Title: Harnesses
Post by: Norman on March 13, 2010, 06:36:13 AM
Now that Simon is doing better I'm starting to take him for short walks as he put on some weight when he was laid up.

I have a generic small dog harness which works ok but it doesn't quite adjust to Simon's shape.Quite some time back I saw somewhere on the net harnesses specifically tailored for our little ones but I just don't remember where and I haven't had any luck looking. The local pet stores don't have what I'm looking for either.

A point in the right direction would be very much appreciated!

It´s good to know Simon is doing better, thank goodness.

Red and Islay have tailor-made harnesses made by Dana from weenieinthewindow.com.  They are beautifully made and have stood up to three years of frequent washing perfectly.  Dana has several dachsies herself and sews perfectly, I can highly recommend her work.  We ordered from her because she was willing to ship to Spain  and cared a lot about getting the perfect fit- the hug-a-dox people were not willing to do overseas shipping for us at the time, their harnesses look great too and the design is good, though I´m nor sure they make them to each individual dogs measurements.

I don´t have a piccie of them in their harnesses standing up since they wouldn´t stay still, but here´s the one I took of them on the sofa and wearing the harnesses so I could send it to Dana.  BTW, the "handles" on the back are not for picking them up ( as some unkind people have suggested) but are to slip the seatbelt through in the car to keep them safe.

We´d love to see Simon in his new harness when you get it!

I got a mesh Hold-A-Dog harness from Doxie Delights 10 years ago and have been very happy with it.  I think the difference between the Hold and Hug versions is the Hold has a loop for securing to seat belts in addition to a metal D-ring for leashes/leads.

We too are great fans of the hold a dox. It fits really well and is comfortable and breathes. Hallie has several! Mostly black mesh with black trim, when she wears the white mesh people always ask why she's wearing a bandage. I don't use the handle for the seat belt (she rides in a crate) but it comes in handy for steadying them on your lap etc.

My two have the hug a dog harnesses...Zoe's is white mesh with red trim and Winston's is white mesh with blue trim...they love them!  As a matter of fact, Zoe gets upset if I try to take hers off...so...she wears it all the time....I washed it alot and now it is nice and soft....

Sorry to hear your best pal Clifford is feeling his age.  Here´s hoping the Spring eases things for him and for you too.  Give the little fellow a big hug from his pals over in Spain, please.

I echo everyone's recommendation for the Hold-A-Dox harness!  Scooter had one for years and I was very pleased with it.

I didn't have time to wait for one to be made when his back went wonky, so I picked up one of these at the store: http://www.sporn.com/cgi-bin/commerce.exe?preadd=action&key=SPUS3

I've been very happy with it as well.
