My mama and daddy went to da store dis morning and lefted me in my cwate (like always). Den while dey was gone I smellded somefing funny. Den I hearded a loud noise. And I heard da firemen downstairs. Mama and daddy got home and saw da fire trucks and came running in to get me!! The neighbor's waterheater starteded on fire!!! We are so lucky dey were at home and heard it right away. Eberybody is safe and sound and nobody got hurted. Da onwy damage was to da closet where the water heater was. And of course, dey are getting a new water heater now. Mama sez its good dey had dere boys at school.
Pwus, my fwiend Herbie is in doggie jail. Mama saw him in da pound when dey dribed by. She's waiting for his ma to get home fwom werk so she can tell her where he's at.
Now, I needs a nap after all dis citement.

I did barks weally loud, but da i also heard da downstairs lady scweaming da cute little dog is up there by himself, can we break in and get him?!! My mama kisseded me all ober and said she's neber eber leabing me agin wifout gibing our a key to our "trusted" neighbor friend. Dis was scawy.... Da "pound" fing is where Herbie is. I guess its like a big cage where dey don't let you do nuffing fun. :dontknow: Sounds scawy to me.

Herbie's mom is trying to find him a home in the country where he could have more room to run. :doah: He is a GREAT dog and just needs a little time and training to learn how to stay in his yard. We told her that if the person she has lined up doesn't take him, we would find a home for him. Either with us or with a one of our friends. For now, he is going to be in the pound until she makes up her mind about keeping him or adopting him. It breaks my heart to see him in there and I wish I could go rescue him now. :heart: I'll try and keep you posted about Herbie and if he finds a home. We are going to keep close tabs on him and when his 7 day quarantine is up we'll get busy and make sure the sweet boy has a safe and happy place to live. If we end up taking him it would only be a foster situation as our apartment would not be large enough for him.

Oh my goodness, Porky. How scared you must have been! I'm so glad you're safe. And I hope Herbie finds a nice home where he can run and run and run.

If Herbie's Mom has to work and leave Herbie out while she's working, :scratch: and he's going to break out of the yard, :doah: he's MUCH safer being in the kennel/shelter/pound while she tries to solve the problem. :thumb:

Know the pound here in Tulsa is a very high kill pound only keep them 3 days then it is off to the room you never return from if you get my drift.All she would have to do is put a harness on the dog when chaining him up cannot hang himself,can not climb a fence if on a cable if staked away from the fence.She may not have the monies to bail him out of the pound you get caught running loose you have to pay a fine to get them out of the pound.
Hope something comes up for Herbie them Beagel's all they want to do is follow their noses we had one when I was growing up we spent hours & hours and allot of gas looking for him.

Our shelter (pound) keeps them only 7 days and then they are able to go up for adoption. I'm not sure how long they are in the "adoptable" phase before they are euthanized. We are going to make sure Herbie gets out of there alive if we can help it. I'm kind of in agreement with Karen, that his home is not a safe environment at all. I do wish they would let us take care of him until he can be put up for adoption though. He is such a sweet boy and I'm sure scared to death in that pen all day. They are very kind to the animals there and give them lots of outside time and playtime, but its not the same as home. I know anybody that lays eyes on him would fall instantly in love, but he needs a home that knows how to handle his high energy and his runaway problems.
