I ran Gretch. She ran into the tunnel and hit the rats like she always does. Then she stopped, came out the false exit, ran back in and started barking at them again. I think she disqualified herself at that point. THEN ... they took the rats out (Laura was the rat steward) and I started calling her out. She wouldn't come out. We tried opening where the rats are, so she could see they weren't there ... she wouldn't stop. We opened where she was so I could pull her out ... she backed up. Finally, I said maybe we can lure her out with the rats. Laura brought them over and Gretch went ballistic. She flew out of the tunnel and started 'boinging' at the rats. Laura was trying to keep her from jumping. Somehow, I ended up crouched behind Laura and when I stood up, I hit Laura right on the butt. She went flying towards Gretch, trying not to step on her but losing her balance. Meanwhile, Gretch was jumping at the rats. Laura stepped on Gretchie's paw and she yelped. I finally scooped her up while she was still recovering from getting stepped on. We looked like the keystone cops!!!!! We were certainly entertaining the judge and the AKC rep!!!! Gretch is fine. Elli hit the tunnel enterance with all she had. It rained yesterday and this tunnel is on the low side of the grounds. It's pretty wet and muddy. Her front paws hit the puddle at the enterance and she stopped. She kept looking over the liner, trying to figure out a way. When I went to scoop her up she started "Bark! Bark! Bark!" I guess she was telling those rats she'd be back tomorrow! UPDATE ... Laura's other doxie, Duke, earned his Master Earthdog title today!!!!!!!! I think she said he'd been working on this for the last 11 years!!!!! Here is a picture of him getting his ribbon.
Ooooh Gretchie! You'll do it next time, girlie. We know how much those dachsies love dem rats. Elli, tomorrow is another day, sweetie. Have sweet rat dreams tonight.
Must have been the day for pouncing on toes. I got both of my kids different times today. Both times the girls were "helping" in the kitchen. When I stepped on Maddie's toe, she screamed bloody murder. When I did it to Bonnie, she hollered too, but not in a shrill way....and I couldn't seem to get my weight off of her. Thankfully toes must be tough. Both of their feeties are just fine.....and they're STILL insisting on "helping" in the kitchen. (sigh).
Sorry Gretchie, but I had to giggle at the fiasco.... ALL you wanted was dem dar rats !!! Glad all are ok !!! And awesome for Duke !
Thanks for sharing, Delia......I must admit I was chuckling as I read your post! Congratulations to Duke!!
Great experience for you Gretch, you will be able to make it soon. Big hands for Duke, congratulations!! :thumb:
Thanks for the laugh at breakfast time! Congratulations to Duke and to Gretchie for following her instincts, those must be awfully tempting....
:bkiss: Way to go, Duke! And I see you got to keep one of dem ratties! An' is dat a brand new red bowl you winned?
You're da man for me!! You can come plow my field- :love10:
IMA!!!! :ticked:
UH, OO, DERE'S DA MAILMAN! BYE! :bolt:
LOLz! Auntie Delia, this kind of "entertaining" sounds just like the way Mom and I were "entertaining" when she thought she could make me run in some silly Wiener Dog Derby. (I wandered around, barked at the crowd, and peed on some things, then went back in the starting gate. Guess I SHOWED HER)
I am sure the most important thing of all is that Gretchen looked adorable while she menaced those rats! Well, that and the fact that everyone is okay. Okay is good. WE LIKE OKAY!
Ooh, and congratulations to Duke!
