I am at my witts end with the marking business, and vendictive peeing. Parker is good for about a month, and then he starts peeing on the sofa, cushions, clothing on the floor, he pees on anything new that comes in the house like shoes, oven mitts, etc. etc. He usually does this after he has been scolded, or he feels he is being ignored. He is becoming a demanding 9 pound tyrant when we are home. Yesterday, I was busy on the computer, and he peed in my chair, in his new bed, and right at my feet while I was working. All in the course of an hour.
We are going away in two weeks and my son is moving in to take care of Parker, and the house. I thought I might give belly bands a try. I am pretty sure he is going to be pissed, and show his displeasure. I think the bands may be a good idea and save my son a lot of "search and clean".
Any advice out there.
I use belly bands on my boys, particularly when Millie is in season. They both learned how to hike their legs well after they were neutered, and once they learned, we had to start potty training from scratch. They are mostly just fine, but when Millie goes into heat, they forget their manners :doah:
I've tried a bunch of different types, and honestly, if you have any skill with a sewing machine, I'd just make a couple yourself. If you can't, I would suggest the custom type (I'll give you a few links) rather than the ones you can buy at Petsmart/Petco-those have elastic and my boys find them very uncomfortable, so I don't end up using them as I should. There are also the type that are kind of like ace bandages-they go around and around and around. The benefit is they're completey adjustable and soft-the downside-they're a pain to remove and put back on for potty trips.
Here are a few places I've used for custom sized belly bands or girlie panties.

:doah: I got belly bands for the boys. They sent the wrong colors in each other's sizes. :verdict: They promptly used them as they meandered around my bedroom, trying to erase each other's pee. :dump:
That's my bookcase.
No. that's MY bookcase, AND my footboard.
MY stuff! There, there and THERE!!
HAH! You're out of ammo! I just loaded up at the water bowl. . .
BOYS!!!!!
 :bolt:
I have had 3 boy dogs the last 23 years they have never marked anything it is just not allowed I did have one Bouvier male that attempted it I just stated around the cornor going from the hall into the dinning room.I had a towel in my hand so I popped him in the butt with it mid mark never tried it again. Do you use the NILF dog training I think it really helps tech them you are top dog I use it all the time with all my dogs. NILF dog training is not harsh you can google it if you are top dog they may not do it ?
Having an old Papillon that was incontinent I used girl diapers on he also used the cheap baby wipes with aloe in the from the Dollar store to keep the pee off of her skin worked well with her.Good Luck you may have to train with one at a time until they get the hint it is not acceptable to mark. Then work with all of them how many boys do you have ? If only one boy I would tether him to you when not crated give him a lite correction if he tries to mark I think marking is a house training problem as well. Hope no one gets mad but it can be done.
:thumb: I was just going to ask you to post your ideas on house training, Bernadee! Good on ya!
Bernadee's absolutely right. Limit Parker wandering around unchaperoned, leashing him to your waist if necessary.
Auntie Karen
Yes years ago a friend that show in dogs told me how to house train a dog/pup does not matter how old.Get a 6 ft leash take them out every 1-2 hours, when waking up,playing, eating and if they sniff around.A crate is a very helpful tool in house breaking also if you hang a bell on the door you use when taking them outside. As an example we will use a 8 week old puppy, take out as recommended. Pup on a 6ft leash and the mom/dad, you ring the bell each time you go out the door at first make sure they see you do it. they will learn to ring the bell on there own after a time of you ringing it.You go to the potty area outside this is helpful if you want to teach them to go in one area of the yard. You go to the spot say go potty or what ever words you want to use just use the same words each time. You stand still in the spot if the go PRAISE like it is the greatest thing you ever saw if you give a treat that is OK but do not give a treat each time.( smart little boogers they will just go out to get a treat later) IF they do not go with in the 6ft. leash area take them in crate them or have them tied to you.Puppies have short attention spans if you just let them loose they forget why they are outside then you do not know if the go or not they are not born knowing to go outside. If they do no go take them back out in about 30 minutes until they do go PRAISE each time they go outside. You have to be very consistence and take them out often. For every accident they have in the house hit your self on the head for not being observant no just kidding really clean any accidents really well with a dog urine em-zine type cleaner a black light works well to find all traces. It may take 3-6 months depending on the age and breed of the dog/pup, to get the dog/pup trained if you really do not take any short cuts and work really hard with them the end result will be a house trained dog/pup that will go potty on command which is great when on trips, snowing, raining, if you need them to go in a hurry for some reason. This really works but i did find out Dachshund's are harder to train than some other breeds.Train them this has worked for me with the following dogs mutt,Collie,American Staffordshire terrier 3 Bouvier's,Papillon,Dachshund & a Doberman big dogs are the easier to train than little dogs.
The lady that told me this said it worked great when she was at the Westminster dog show in New York in winter doing obedience with her Doberman.Good Luck
Good thing here Max didn't show some close behavior of marking, good thing too he grown up to hold he pee. A friend use belly band too and relatively gives improvement on her JRT marking on new things around their house.
I have only had two boys, both have been neutered, but never had any problems, but as papbouv says God help them if they had....................only time they have been in the house was next to the back door at nannies, and it was our fault for not paying attention. Oliver and missy moo are good they will go on command and even wake me in the middle of the night to tell me "i gotta go" Amy is one flap and stand at the back door and BARK, as dog door is not in at night due to snakes and other bits of wild life, that may venture in. Consistency and patience.

da gang, Just think of someone singing what's a "girlie or dachie do" it makes you go and get away from it........................
I've tried them and they didn't work very well, due to the design. If I had to use them again I would get some sanitary pads (maxi-pads), you can cut them if half if need be. And tie them around the dog with a bandana, sort of tight, not so it cuts off circulation of course but to hold the pad snug.
