Title: It's Been a Rough Day.......
Post by: DeeanDave on December 10, 2009, 08:43:11 PM
And, what a day especially for Duggie.  Everything was running smooth until Duggie and I got back from the vets office this morning!  All day long, Earl would not leave Duggie alone...he would follow him, put his head on Duggie's back whether he was standing, sitting or laying.....wanted to lick him.......he has started to ease up somewhat.  And, Earl even went into time out!  Duggie went in this morning for boosters and an exam plus the doc checked his anal glands....that must have been what put Earl into full motion.....maybe the odor....I don't know for sure.  Duggie even put him in his place several times to no avail.   Earl came to us un-neutered.....could that be the drive in him?   Today was the last day for Earl's information on the lost pet hotline for the shelter...no calls.  He will be neutered soon....well, after the holidays but I'll have it done before if he doesn't leave Duggie alone!

Enough rant from me.......it didn't help any that I have the start of a migraine.   Earl completely left Sarge alone...he just wanted to bug Duggie and Duggie just wanted to be left alone.  Earl says, I was in trubble most of the day.....but I can't help myself!

Have a good night!

Poor Earl.  He cain't help his "drive" right now.  He'll be such a nicer boy after he's "tutored".  Poor Duggie.  The vets and then a pesky little brother.  Poor mama.  Take two Motrin and call me in the morning.

Looks like you've got an new Earl in the house.

Earl just trying to reestablish  that he is boss over Duggie he was gone so just wants to make sure Duggie knows who is in charge when a dog puts his head over top of another dog suppose to be a dominance thing. Buddy does it to Patches when he can get away with it I always make him stop.
CJ my old Bouvier did it twice in his lifetime once to my MIL dog when she lived I IA her dog was trying to be too friendly to CJ since CJ was bigger he nipped it in the bud early.
One time we were at the park walking the dogs a stray came up was trying to get little Gizmo my Papillon. CJ kept the other dog away from her the dog did not take the hint. CJ walked up put his mouth around the back of the stray dogs neck and growled really low the stray decided he did not want to see Gizmo after all and left.
That is why I think it is a dominance thing of course I maybe wrong.. Papbouv

Dee, I think the neuter will help, looks like he is trying to see if he is higher than Duggie in the pecking order. You just wonder what goes through their little minds sometimes.

Two words:
   "Adios, cajones."

It's always a transition introducing a new family member. The pecking order needs to get re-established and it will. Certainly won't hurt to have Earl altered so he is not so dominate. Good Luck....Kelly

Oh, I feel your pain!  I always spay females as close to 6 months as possible, so getting two males that were both not neutered was a big experience for me.  Things settled down a lot after each boy said, "Adios, cajones", as Leslie says!

Also, dogs smell different after they've come home from the vet-especially if they are afraid while there.  All the tails in my house go straight up when I return from the vet with one and they sometimes have little shoving matches until that fear smell wears off.  Dogs are weird

Hi DeeDee....Sorry I didn't respond sooner....we've had some interesting times here!  Earl has settled down somewhat.....Duggie finally had his fill of Earl bugging him and put him in his place with showing teeth and snarls.  He and Sarge must have had a talk and Sarge told him what he needed to do.  They all will play together but when Earl starts to get obnoxious, both Sarge and Duggie put him in his place.  But it took until the next day.  The evening of the day I talked about, at about 11:30 pm, I was just about ready to say he had to go.  I didn't feel well, the taunting was getting really bad and then he just fell asleep.  I'm happy to report all is well in the household.  We are working on our manners.........by all three boys.  Duggie, yesterday, was just as obnoxious towards Earl as Earl had been earlier to him!  Sarge stayed as far away from them as he could!

Earl is a little terror on wheels!  On Sunday night, Dave and I went to the Eagle Ridge Holiday Lighting where we play Santa and Mrs. Claus.....I wanted to confine Earl to the kitchen....Dave said no, lets give it a test.  We were gone for four hours.  We came home and I about fainted!  The house looked as though they had the wildest party around!  One of the ramps that we made out of hard foam was tipped upside down in the middle of the room, the fleece was partially removed from it and one of the bars of foam located on the base, was pulled out and some pieces pulled from it......all the pillow beds were all upside down with the blankets all over the room and there were toys scattered everywhere!  Every toy was scattered about.  Thank goodness the tree was still standing!  It was an absolute mess!   So now when we go, he will be confined to the kitchen.  And we had to go today, so I set up a high gate (he can jump a 36 inch xpen).  What I have set up, he cannot jump it.  It worked well.  No wild parties were held!

His shoulder is doing great!  He is walking on it and putting full weight on it.   He does not carry it up when he runs.  He goes in to get neutered after the first of the year.

Sounds like one hell of a time, you tend to forget when they were young. The op should!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! calm him down a bit. Glad to hear he is fetting the idea that he is on the bottom of the pecking order.

Wow. Maybe we are seeing why he was dumped (if he indeed was!). He will turn into a well behaved boy with your guidance, and I agree hopefully the neutering will help a lot too. The initial adjustment period is never any fun, it's such a big change but it always turns out good in the end! Your boys have been very good and patient it is good they are telling Earl the rules of the game. This is a stressful time of year anyway, with this on top of it you must be at your breaking point at times. Hang in there!

It's going to be just fine.  He can look at you with those big brown eyes and then cuddle with you and you forget about the frustration.  His actions are right along the line of a puppy or rebellious teenager.  I agree that the neuter will definitely be a plus!  We'll make it and so will Earl.  One look at him and I know that we made the right decision in providing him his forever home.......definitely is keeping me on my toes.  Right now all three of them are sleeping away......I love them all!   And, yes, Roberta, Earl has learned the pecking order of the pack and that he is number 3.

And, DeeDee, just to add the stress of the season, we got a bad tank of gas and it did a number on the Vue.  I gassed up a week ago Monday and we just had small trips around home.  Sunday night, we went to Eagle Ridge for their Holiday Lighting Party and on the way home (freeway driving), the car started to misfire when we were about half way home.  We made it home and we called the Saturn dealer to get the car in today.  Dave figured it was water and sediments in the gas tank and that's what it was.  The mechanic did a diagnostic test and identified what specifically was the problem and what needed to be fixed......a full throttle flush, the debris removed from the tank and then the fuel tank received a treatment, new spark plugs, the injectors had to  be cleaned and a new fuel filter.......all from a bad tank of gas..........the bill to fix the problem was over $550!!!!  But now the car "purrs"!

And, we received 4 inches of snow overnight.....and now it's raining, and the temperatures are dropping!!   Oh joy!  More snow and rain is in the weather forecast!   And, I still haven't completed all the Christmas shopping nor have I wrapped any gifts yet.....but the tree is up and it is very pretty.

That reminds me of when Rudy & Max were being babysat.   The owner (who had another dachshund) left all three of them run of the house.   By the time he came home, they had trashed the place.   We all figured Rudy was the ringleader on that one.

Even when I had them, Rudy would occasionally go on a rampage.  If I left a door open, forget it.  One time my roomate left his bedroom door open.  Rudy gorged himself on everything in the room.  He looked like a blimp when I found him.   Another time, Rudy gorged himself on snacks and chocolate.   Realizing his stomach would be upset, he hopped on the table and found some Imodium I had left out.   Poor guy was stoned off his tail when I found him.   The Vet said if he didn't move his bowels in 36 hours to bring him in.   In the 35th hour, Rudy finally let go.   You'd have thought he was a horse.

The Zs are far more sedate in that respect.   Other than some toy-killing, they are usually pretty well behaved when left alone.

Sheesh. It sounds like you are busy getting your quota of bad luck in at the end of the year here. Ouch! You know that means 2010 is going to be a GREAT year.  :thumb: It does seem like things come in clusters like that...I have been seeing a lot of snowflakes for you guys in the forecast. Dave is really good at figuring stuff out (like my "rat poison" thingie also!). I didn't even know a bad tank of gas could do that much damage.

I am so glad you are riding out the beginnings of a new fur child, things WILL settle in time, with the Christmas stress behind you it will be easier too...plus he'll be neutered! That's bound to help!

I don't suppose with all that's been going on you've had a chance to get some photos of the three of them for us?
