Great Lakes Region checking in.  We had rain and snow in MI, but just rain here and that has now stopped.  They are promising wind today and tomorrow.

We got 8 inches.   I have a feeling hubby is going to wish he was still on the road yet .
He shoveled out a spot for them to go out in.
Zack & Zena are doing ok with it.

Western Nebraska here:  We have 8 inches of snow, and bitter COLD!!! It is -6 right now at 11 am with a windchill of -15. We have had below zero temps for days!  The nights are -40 windchills so, anybody east of us, get ready for a week of bone-shattering cold.   Let's put it this way.... -6 today seems rather warm!  :2funny:   Our high will supposedly make it to 10 today, but I'm doubting that.  After today we get to warm up to the teens and 20s!! The storm passed us by and we survived.  No power outages, no frozen pipes, just cold and 8 inches of snow.
We're praying everybody east ofus stays warm and safe over the next few days.  Porky says to tell all the pups that they will need their blankies and the heat turned WAY up.

Looking out my office window in lovely Lisle, I see snow going sideways.  Wind gusts are up to 40 mph.  Temp currently 29F but supposed to drop near 0 tonight.  I had to move with a shovel 1.5" of slush from the driveway this morning at 6 am so I wouldn't come home to an ice field.

Oh, now the snow is coming down at a 45 degree angle.  Much better...

Cancel that....back to vertical

In westen WI I think we have about 6-8".  Today was I believe the first time since I have worked for the state that the governor declared an emergency and closed the state offices!!  Since I will hit 30 years of employment on 2/4/10  that is a rare event.  I admit I called the office after first hearing mention of it, and my boss was there. He did say the office is closed however we had the option of coming to work or not coming in.  Given I live less than 5 blocks away that does not sound too bad to get in but.... Given that my handicap parking place on the street is on a side street which is very low priority and they only started the residential street plowing at 11am today, I am sure I would have had problems either getting in to work or else getting out to my van which would have been surrounded by snow plowed up to it by the plows!   My emergency shovel is still in the garage, not in the van, and I just am not up to shoveling right now, so I chose to stay home!!  I must also admit my balance which has not been very good has been even worse recently and I do not wish to be laying in the street or anyplace else outside!!  At best the temperature here is about 8 degrees or colder.....so I dont want to be outside at all!!
I went out this evening to clear off the van. I do feel a little guilty since I did not know offices were closed when i called the company that does my shoveling and reminded them i need to be at work at 7:45am.  They got there to shovel and were doing it as i found out i did not need to go in.

Gee wonder why I am confused over the amount of snow we got!! One web site lists a number of reports by "trained spotters range from 6" all the way up to 13.1 inches!! On the good side, my shovelers came and even better we did NOT lose power. some parts of the state have lost power!

It really does look like more than a foot high in my front yard!  I will say this is a weird city weather wise.  If you go up the hill it can be pouring rain and you come back down the hill by where i am and its totally dry, no rain!!

16 inches of snow here in Des Moines. The city basically shut down today. Buses and cabs weren't running, all major businesses were closed. 3 1/2 foot drifts in our driveway. Snow from 1 1/2 to 3 feet deep in the back yard where we have been fighting the wind all day to keep runways clear for Sam and Sophie. 40-50 mph wind gusts all day long. Now the wind has died down and the temperature is plummeting. Wind chills of -30 are expected by morning. More snow is predicted for the weekend.

Eastern Iowa checking in (sorry a little late!).  About 8-10 inches of snow - can't tell because of serious drifting.  Like any sensible Iowan, I ran out Monday night and stocked up on milk, bread, TP, and beer!  Oh, and some food for Ozzy.

Poor little guy!  I let him out yesterday morning on the back deck.  He found the stairs badly drifted in but managed to get down them.  The places he could actually walk were limited and he ended up going UNDER the deck!  I panicked and called his name, but realized if I stayed quiet, I could hear his collar jingling.  He came out from under the deck and sat down, looking sadly at me.  I realized he could not find the steps to come back up, so I had to throw on boots and a coat over my nightgown and "rescue" him.  He was a snow coated mess!

The place hubby and I work at was closed yesterday, so I spend the rest of the day cuddled up with Ozzy and watched trashy TV.

Not sure if this will help any ones puppers but when I had Twinkie and was laid up with the broken leg I had a flexi hooked to the screen door.   and when she went out, she would just go out and down the ramp and do her thing.  Am just thinking with the snow for some it might be a way to help them find the way back in?  If it looks like they are lost, if you tug on the leash they might figure out the way back.  Of course then some will decide to play maypole with something in the yard and then you still have to go out and rescue them.

Poor doxies, if they were so light like some of the fluffy breeds they might be able to just bounce along on top of the snow but even the minis have a pretty solid body core so more likely to sink!!
