Found in a dumpster by two college girls and turned into animal control. AC put in a call to all rescue groups because she has no hair where she should have black hair....although where the fur is red, she has it. We think it may be a genetic problem..her skin is actually in really good condition and it doesn't seem to bother her....she's just doesn't have any fur.
anyway, she's super sweet...just need a little help

I know blue Dobermans look like that some times they have allot of coat problems need allot of special care food and supplements if you want you could go to Doberman Talk.com look in the search about Blue Dobermans .She may be a Dachshund but a Blue one with coat problems she just may always have coat problems.Blue Dobermans have the rust markings too.
She deserves to be loved despite her bad breeding. I hope she finds her forever home soon.

Thank you for the pointer. I've learned that B&T dachshunds carry the recesive gene that creates blue coats. She doesn't have the blue eyes but they aren't brown either...soooo....

She's so sweet and loaded with personality that I can't imagine that she won't find a good home. I KNOW that someone would be super happy with her....just gotta find that person.
Bless you for taking this little girl into your heart and home, she looks such a sweetie and ever so patient. We´ll pray for a perfect home for this little angel, she certainly deserves it.
She's a blue/tan with color dilution alopecia. Poor little baby. There are various skin conditions associated with CDA beyond the obvious loss of hair. Best of luck with her-she looks very sweet.
Do you mind if I post a link to this thread on a couple of other dachshund sites? It's hard to find good examples of dogs with alopecia.
I can post the photobucket link when I get home tonight...or you may be able to drill down and get the link yourself. Feel free to post away.
Bless you for taking this baby in.....I think she is beautiful and she looks ever so sweet!!! I pray she finds her forever home soon
People suck. They dump real babies in the garbage too even though most if not all states have safe haven laws. They could have taken the poor dog to the shelter at the very least.
Actually, Baby is with my new foster parent....long story, the new FP trapped a 1 year old red smooth female and turned her into me. After vetting we found out the dog is HW+....so I kept the HW+ dog and let the FP take baby.
I'm learning alot about dogs, never want to care for a HW+ dog but I did volunteer for the job....I asked for it I got it.
Blue Doberman
That's a female version of Zeke - a blue/tan. The Alopecia is very common among blues. Zeke had a full coat up until he was about 2 and lost a good chunk of his blue hairs. Some of it grew back withe Zeke, but his coat is nowhere near as full as any of the other dachsies I have.
A big hug and thank you to the college girls that did the right thing and saved Baby's life. She sure looks like a doll...
Think of it this way...a dachshund that cannot shed!
I did some research on color dilution alopecia, and the signs and symptoms fis Zeke (as well as your new foster) to a T. I recall the breeder told Yamisi (Zeke's original owner) that the hair loss at two years of age was "normal" for the blue colored dogs. The breeder didn't mention that it was because of CDA. :cussing:
To me it sounds like breeders shouldn't be trying to breed blue/tan.
I have this temptation to say I want her....BUT I live in wunerful frigid WI and although there are idiots around here that go bomping around in teeshirts(I saw one yesterday when it was about 3 below!!) I would really worry about her getting way too cold!! I know my Twinkie angel had gotten some frost bite or close to it on 2 feet. the first was before I got her at age 3 and it was easy to see because when winter was first coming on and it dropped just down the 30 degrees, she would be wandering around outside on 3 feet while holding that one up in the air. At some point later another foot had to have gotten too chilled because the last year or two when it got really cold the poor little sweetie would try to get around on 2 feet and that was JUST NOT doable.
I mean you could put a coat on her to go outside in the winter, but seems like she really would need to have long underware so her legs wouldnt freeze!! The ears I could handle cuz id make her a bonnet like I made the other doxies. basically a real basic design that goes around the head on people and ties under the chin. I just made shorter ties and wrapped it around their heads twice, and kept the ears warm at 10 below!! Ears stay nice and toasty warm!!
I am guessing if its aleopeca(sorry on spelling) that tends to be permanent.
Ironic thing with this poor girl since her skin is in good shape it would seem highly likely someone really cares(d) about her. so maybe one of those domestic violence connections and abuser tossed the dog to hurt the other person! it is so stupid what people either with drug and or alcohol issues and abuse kind of situations do to hurt the other party! Thankfully she was rescued!! Other possibility is some idiot decided what she has is contagious!!
I must admit I would really like to see The idiot who did it get dumped in a REALLY BIG dumpster him or herself.....basically in same sitatuion she was in!! ONE TOO BIG for them to climb out of!! I think that sounds like a reasonable request!!!
I tend to think there's a special place in he11 for people who abuse animals and children.
But she's ok now, she's got personality for days, and she actually seems pretty healthy despite her lack of hair. I know she'll make some one a great pet....now to find that person. They are out there.
Another member wants me to ship her up north for foster.
Here's that photobucket link I promised
http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/rr289/JetEd73/Baby%208363/
Given what you say about her personality, and the condition of her coat I still wonder if there is someone who really loved this doxie and had it ripped away from them by abuser of both dogs and people.
One of the really horrible things that happens with "domestic abuse situations" often involves the abuser abusing the dog just to give the abused even more pain. I do think down the road that abuser WILL get theirs". But in the meantime the abused both adult and children who really loved the dog will be told its THEIR fault the abuser does what he or she does.
I do think the lack of hair on most of the body would mean living really up north would really be challenging. If she is a mini it would be possible to train her to use a litter box inside so she would not have to go outside when it gets so close to zero. But that probably would confuse things to train her to use one as a foster.
Hopefully whoever gives her her forever home knows she would be at risk of sunburns. I really don't know what they do with dogs because most of those sunblocks have so many chemicals I would be afraid to use them. I do remember meeting an owner of a chinese crested dog and I first thought she was from the midwest, and she said "No way!! Too cold for my baby!!"
I am very thankful those college girls rescued her!!

There's just no way for me to really tell if she was tossed by an abuser or some sorry backyard breeder. For some reason I get the feeling that "Granny" died and the kids tossed the dog. There's really no way for me to know. :dontknow: Even if I did find out that she was tossed by an abuser and retured the dog to the righful owner, there is no guarantee that Baby would be safe after returning home. I couldn't return her if I wanted to, Baby is now a tagged DRNA dog and I have paper work stating that she is ours.
Here's what I do know for sure....Baby is safe and well cared for with DRNA. I will be sending her north after Christmas. We have members up north that seem to be able to place any dog in a great home. We got people that can place 13-14-15 year old dog with people who give them sanctuary. Lowriders in Ohio is a good example of this, the dog she had before she adopted Sammy was a senior with a known heart problem, she adopted that dog and then spent a ton of money trying to help the old fellow.
Down here in the south, I can barely place a healthy pure bred. We have a glut of dachshunds here, you can get them at the pound all day long for 50-75 dollars. We regularly pull dogs from shelters and send them to members in the north. 4 of the 5 dogs I placed this year were placed north of the Mason/Dixon line.
If it was an abuser the best to hope for is that if that was the case the human who likely is also abused will feel relief that her puppy has been rescued and is out of the abuser's clutches!! My hope would be if that was the case the human being abused will get courage from it to escape their situation too!
I would never expect any rescue group to return a dog to a home where they have been tossed out like she was, or one where a dog was injured.
I do plan to get another doxie eventually and to be honest would feel the most comfortable with a grannie type dog, which usually means a senior one! I migh have to wait till I retire in a couple years if work keeps up as crazy as it currently is whoever I get would be home alone quite a bit. My Twinkie Angel really struggled with that, even though I had a longer lunch hour so she was not home alone for a long long stretch. When I lost her at 15 1/2 years of age, we had gone through a root canal(when I first got her she sheared off half of that double back tooth). Then we went to what my vet(bed side manner impaired)called a BLOWN heart valve. To hear him talk she was going to keel over soon, but typical doxie behavior meant she was around another 3 years, by taking a blood pressure med to lower the pressure. Then she also ended up on clomicalm for the seperation anxiety and then the last year even went through losing one tootsie to cancer! Of course towards the end she did not see much and didn't hear too well, but she never lost her nose! I swear she could sniff out a treat right to the end!!
Good to see she's just fine and so healthy despite of her condition. Those eyes and face is so sweet and . Wishing a very loving home for her soon.
Was just wondering how she is doing now? Has she been sent north? I pray that someone will rescue her and give her the love and care she needs
!!
Baby is safe, happy and healthy with me for now. I have an application for her I need to process. She may have a new home in Dalton GA...if not...she's safe and well cared for in my home untill I find a suitable owner for her.
Bless you...... :comfort: to sweet baby girl with no hair.
Thank You for the pat on the back.
I agree with Barb!!! Thank you for taking her in and I am sure loving her and keeping her safe!! GA sounds like it might be a good place for her(warmer than the frigid north!!)
How is this funny little duck doing???
Happy as a clam and sweet as can be.
Oh GOOD!!!
FYI
I posted Baby to the DRNA website last week.
I now have not one...but two...very promissing applications for her...and as always, I'm very selective about where I send my dogs.
That is wonderful news!!! I hope Baby finds her forever home soon

How would you feel about doing a home visit in Union KY?
I have that visit post to the DRNA board...if something doesn't pan out there I'll probably call Leslie and see if she can do it.
Ed, my car is in the shop for awhile. Getting her all fixed up. Not sure when it will be ready. Would you mind calling Leslie? If she can't, I might be able to borrow my mom's car :dontknow:
Thats exactly what I did, I talked to Leslie and she is going to do the home visit.
Honestly I have no doubts about either adopter.
Both girls have helped with transports, both girls have adopted puppy mill survivors, dogs with known behavior problems and have been successfull with those dog. That fact alone puts them in the upper class of dog owners. Few people have the heart to adopt dogs with behavior problems, these girl do have the heart.
so Im happy with my placements. I feel certain that my rescues will be well cared for.
Wonderful!!! I am so glad Leslie can help out. Should get my car back later this week and then she will be good to go!!! If you need anything else completed close to Cincinnati, either home visit or transport (not a problem now), please give me a call. I have an extra crate in the basement I can use if needed. Cheryl
Im happy and proud to annouce that Baby now has a new home. The applicants are driving down from Kentucky this week end to pick her up and take her home. Her new name will be Georgia. She was rescued from Georgia and she's fuzzy and sweet like a good Georgia Peach, IMHO the new name fits.
That is fantastic news, so the sweetie is going to love her for what she is.............gorgious
Roberta
I think you got it. The new owner is going to love this dog just because the dog needs love....but I know this dog...she will return the love in spades. I can't imagine anyone not loving this dog.
FANTASTIC! Georgia is a wonderful name for such a beautiful little girl :apls: :apls:
Georgia is now on her way home with her new mom and dad. I like these people, it's a good placement for both owner and Baby/Georgia.

I am so happy for her! :thumb:
Looks as if Georgia loves her food.......................as that looks like a round tum tum
Roberta
True, she was a little rotund when I got her, didn't take long to figure out she was a chow hound. She's one of those dogs that have to have a feeding time and measured food.
once in awhile I get an email or text message from Georgia's (aka Baby) new mom and dad....and it just makes my day. I'm so happy and pleased that things turned out so well for this little dog. She went from a dumpster and potentially being crushed in a trash truck and dumped in a landfill to a wonderful home and 2 people that really care about her... she landed in butter.
Stuff like this makes all the effort and work of rescue worth everything I ever put into it.

I couldn't image life without her. She is a dolland always makes us laugh. When she hears popcorn in the microwave she runs in the kitchen and dances til it comes out. We adore her! So happy she's here!

Oh my this brings tears to my eyes. I don't know who I am happier for, Georgia or her new Mom they are both very lucky! Must feel good to have played such a big part in this. :thumb:
Just to let ya"ll know...I still get emails and txt photos from Georgia's (aka Baby) mom.
i just came back from the store and found a 9 month old basset pup in the street. she was scared and came right to me so i brought her home to figure out what to do with her. i must tell you, georgia was the most WELCOMING dog i ever seen! she wasn't too overbearing and made friends with the timid pup who came out of her shell right away!! she got her to play and was so sweet. i made signs to hang in the neighborhood and jeremiah fortunatly found the owner before i hung them up... that little georgia is something else ed!!! such a sweet heart! we've had her a year sunday!
Georgia/Baby looks wonderful in her new forever home. Looking at some of the pics, I wonder if she came from the same breeder that Zeke / Zora came from. The semblance to Zeke, particularly in the skull and the tan patterns is close to identical. I don't think too many breeders try to breed blues because of the CDA issues.
Georgia/Baby was rescued from Dahlonaga GA. By the condition of her nipples/mamary glads my guess is that she'd had a few litters of pups but she was defiantly someone's pet.
The Zs came from a breeder in Duncanville, Alabama. We're definitely in the right neck of the woods.
