Title: Magic Words
Post by: David C. on November 22, 2009, 07:15:18 PM
Do you have magic words that make your dachsies go nuts?  I'm sure all dachsies know "Food" and "Outside" and maybe even "Goferride".

Today, I was just sitting watching football on TV with both Zs in my lap.  Both were staring at me.  I just looked down at them and said "Woof".   That immediately sent both of them into full-blown play mode.

With Danni it's  more of a phrase - Where's your baby.  For some reason all but one of her stuffed babies have disappeared and the only one not in hiding is her purple bat named Bentley.  When I ask her that one question she goes nuts looking for it and then wants to play non stop until you drop.

"Who's ready?" When they hear this they know anything can happen, from supper time to a ride to playtime. They'll come up from the depths of sleep if they hear this.

"come on" has them wide awake and ready dancing at our feet in seconds - ready for walking, playing, car or whatever.  Works every time.  Miguel has a special whistle he can do too which always works.  I, I am embarrassed to say, can´t whistle!

Porky has lots of magic words that he knows and fully understands.  However, none of them quite result in the reaction we get from the words, "Grandpa's here!!" or "Grandpa's house!"    As soon as those words are said, Porky has the full bodied tail wag and the cutest little strut.     If he sees either J's dad or mine, he will literally run to them and wait to be held and smothered with hugs.

If i say "Cat" or "Daisy" (which is the cats name) Fin goes nuts and if he is with me, he has to go find her and bark in her face and harass her a bit. Or if he is doing something else, he has to come find me and make sure she is in no way touching or looking at me... then he will bark in her face. He also does this thing where he will run full speed at the couch and kind of... shove on it with his front feet, then bounce off and run to the cat. And he will do that back and forth for sometime.

Then he will bark in her face.

If I say the word "bone" Hilde perks up expecting to get one.  She has her tail wagging so fast sometimes I think she's gonna fall over.

At my house it's not magic words. if one of us happens to get into the closet where the leashes are hanging and then its full blown excitement and they think its time for a walkie!  :apls:

"Are you hungry?", "Do you want foodies?" and "Want to go outside and go potty?" are all the key nutso-makers in my house.  Murphy practically unscrews his head when you say "Are you hungry?", he tilts his head so far to the left.  He's a biiiig fan of the foodies.

"Walkies" has 3 tails wagging at the garage door.  Push the button Dad!   Up, Up!

Cocoa learned how to signal that she wanted the car window down by pushing at the door lock like it was an electric window button.  Dad would oblige so she could stick her nose into the wind.

I taught Twinkie one, when she was getting to be a pain. I would say "Golaydown!!"  If she did not do it, I would pick her up and plunk her in one of her doggy beds(she was deprived I think she had 7 in our 5 room house!!) .  If she got out I would put her back in.  She learned very quickly if I said that she was supposed to go the nearest bed, blankie, rug, towel, etc and lay down!  The funny part was that was back in the day when Merion and I traded doggy day care, so I had Zeke and Zelda at my house in the evenings.  The funny thing was I never tried to use it on Zeke and Zelda BUT Zeke being the sweetie he was quickly picked up on it.  So I would tell Twinkie "Golaydown!!" and boom, the two little red doxies would do exactly that! Zelda meanwhile would totally ignore it!!  I never tried to teach Zeke to do it at all but he was such a sweetie he just figured it was the right thing to do I guess.

Fred and Jessie had magic words, but Hallie has never seemed to have one. I can say are you hungry, ready to go, etc and she is always happy and eager to do anything but it doesn't get her too excited by the words. Once we start to do something she gets excited though I guess she is a woman of action and not words!

My magic words are "Treat" which causes running around in circles and running into their crates for the treaties and "Go outside?"  "Go Potty?" which gets all three of them running to the back door.

*Pee Pee time* accompanied by hand claps will get all the dogs out the dog door at my mothers for the nightly potty break before bed. 4 brown streaks come out of a dead sleep and zoom for the doggy door  :apls:

"Treat" is my Max's fave magic word too! He also likes "whoahh"  which means he will be able to go out and pee/poop and then run and play on the yard..
