We got the dreaded post card to come in for their Lepto shots so took both at the same time about fell over $40.00 a dog for a office visit then monies for the shots. The vet says they behave so well when we go up to see them the vet said they had a Dachshund in earlier that tried to bite her in the face. She said some clients say when a dog is showing their teeth at them the owners says they are smiling. The vet says no they are not the dog wants to bite them. The scales are against Patches 14.8#Vet says she is over weight more Green Beans I told the vet Patches loves anything green Spinach,Lettuce,Green Beans & Carrots so guess she will get more of them not going under the 1/8 of a cup of dog food that would be too mean. Patches does get low fat treats when I do her nails not giving that up either.Buddy weighs 97.4# so she said he was about 3# over weight but with winter coming on he can wait til Spring too lose weight. He gets cold when it is in the 50* suppose to be in the 50* in the morning with FOG so as soon as the FOG clears going out for a walk bought Pepper spray Gel to take with us on our walks too many close calls with loose dogs the one attack & then 2 more close calls.I just hope the wind will be kind and not get me or my dogs the lady said to get baby shampoo mix it in a spray bottle to spray on there eyes or my eyes. She said since it has oil need the shampoo mixed with water to be able to wipe the oil off. Almost has me too scared to use it would have worked when the Pit attacked Buddy it was distracted by the air horn would have had a good shot if I would have had the spray then. I just hope I will never have too use it but feel like I need something.Papbouv
PS:For any one that brushes their dogs teeth any tips for doing the back teeth??? Patches teeth look great except for the back teeth I use the dental stuff in their drinking water,Patches gets the CET rawhide chews, I brush them everyday with a small round brush on a Braun battery tooth brush. Any ideas?
lepto shots?
interesting, both my dachshunds had bad reactions to them, DRNA doesn't not do the lepto shot either. It is very common for dachshunds to be allergic to the lepto vaccine. I won't do it to my dogs.
I do the Lepto because of where we live we have a 3 block long and 1 block wide industrial Cement yard right behind our house they have stacks and stack on all kinds of bricks cement blocks pipes and who knows what else. They also have a Fox family living over there.Hawks, Owe ls, Rats, Mice,Skunks possum's. would not be surprised if there was not Racoon's, Rabits, Coyote's & Bats over there. They built about a 8ft cement wall all the way up & down backs of neighborhood houses.Hubby put cement curbing down both sides then put up galvanized metal sheeting 6ft down both sides of the yard.Buddy sleeps in at night of course Patches sleeps in at night but I can tell when something has been in the yard by the way the dogs act when we let them out in the morning sniffing all over.Lepto can be passed to humans I prefer not to get it nor do I want my dogs to get it.Patches did just fine with the vaccine my immune system is not good any way since the disease is spread by urine and I know there are Rats around rather be safe than sorry.
