When it's sunny out Hallie loves to lay in the garden in the dirt and snooze. I no longer plant stuff in the garden and have put lawn over half of it so there is still plenty of room for Hallie to pick a spot to lay in, but there are quite a few rocks out there and no matter how much I pick them out they reappear somehow. She loves the sand at the beach so I was thinking of putting that sandbox clean sand in bags for kids, over the garden so Hallie would have a soft place to lay and it would drain and dry out faster for her.
I don't know if there would be any drawbacks though, would it be dusty at all, would she breathe that in, get in her eyes, etc? Would she track it in to the house? When we are at the beach I don't notice a lot of sand falling off her when we go back in. Would there be anything else bad about using sand I'm not thinking of? I don't think it will attract cats because we used to have a big cat problem thinking the garden was their litter box, (which is why I stopped planting stuff out there) but since the new fence went up (a few inches taller and peaked on the top) I haven't seen any cat doo at all and it's been over a year.
Any input would be appreciated I get on these jags and then worry I didn't think of all the angles.
girlfriend, you are gonna get sand all over yer house and every cat in the neighborhood will come and make deposits.
She's got a nice grass to lay in. Don't worry about the rocks, she'll shift until she finds a comfortable spot.
OK I'm convinced. You are right. Poopy! Now I have to figure out another way to up her spot on the spoiled meter. I see a covered cabana with feather beds and a mini heat pump in her future!
I always picture her in one of those traveling thingies, where the four shirtless muscled men are carring it at each corner. And its all draped with flowy fabrics so no one can see in and all people can think as they pass is "Someone beautiful and important is in there."
Very Cleopatra.
Haha
I agree with Leslie cats and sand go together even with a high fence. And sand in the house is not a good thing.
Yes, the gang go Walkies dailie which ends in the river, Oliver even after 15min walk back is left outside to drop it when he gets home and the car needs vac'd weekly.
Plus think of the wet days, sand stays wet for a while. Thought about some THICK astro turf so da carpet will blend in with the grass,
Roberta
Two things come to mind. 1. Cat deposits, 2. Sand fleas!!! I don't know if they could get in there, but you never know right?! She'll be fine where she is. I got worried about Porky laying on the hard floor to catch his rays through the window, and moved a nice cozy looking bed onto that spot. The little stinker refuses to lay on it and when he does, he only lets his butt and tail on it and the rest of his body and his head are flopped on the floor. :2funny: It doesn't look comfortable in the least!
I like the Cleopatra image. That would be so great to get a picture of. (hint hint!) If she doesn't seem bothered by the rocks, I wouldn't worry about it. A girl's gotta get her rays you know!! Give Hallie a kiss for me and Porky Pie.

Hee hee! That image is the best. I can actually see Hallie doing that!
I'm thinkin' a nice big flat rock that will warm up nicely in the sun. Zuzu likes that.
She also used to have her very own, what I call a "goat scramble": a pile of rocks, a giant flat tree stump with logs to climb on and over. That was fun for hunting! Mean ole mommy finally cleared the spot out and had the stump ground up. No chance is Hallie Bear evah gettin' one of those, though.
Of course, whatever you get it should have a sound system with little trumpet sounds, be surrounded by a moat filled with cheese and have some royal guards, preferably big studly ones in very little armour.
How about a nice soft layer of mulch. Dark mulch will warm up quicker than dirt and stays warm. Patches lays in a sunny flower bed...on the mulch!
I would not do sand. I had a sand box for Siggy for a while and they do track in a lot of sand. If you think you need something I like the idea of the smooth flat rock.
I'm thinking that sand would be tracked in. And yes, that "traveling thingy" is rightfully called a "litter". Princess Hallie needs one with gauzy curtains, soft silky pillows, and fringe. Sophie always wants one with fringe. And other dogs in the household are supposed to bow when she goes by... :)
LOL OK no sand....my cousin says she has to hose her 2 legged kids off too. Les you are killing me! OK I'll take up the challenge of getting a photo with Hallie in her floating caravan. Cleopatra costume in her future! The flat rock is a good idea but she does have a big slab of concrete to lay on for rockadge...mulch I tried but the kind I got had some things in it that can give you slivers? Maybe I got the wrong kind!
Thanks y'all for setting me straight before it was too late!
Oh another thing about sand and cats the little presents left in the sand make great treats for dogs they seem to love them yuck
Yes that makes me so mad, the neighbors cats would visit Hallie's garden regularly before the new fence came in, now it's been over a year and I haven't seen one pile. There were always piles before. So I don't think cat presents would be a problem now in the back but they sure are in the front yard, (why can't people be responsible and keep their cats home!!! I always kept mine home I trained them to not jump the fence so they could enjoy the outdoors safely and not bother the neighbors!) I got a "scarecrow" the thing that has a motion detector and will shoot water at anything that moves. There were no more piles around the scarecrow but there were in other parts of the flower bed and in the winter I turn the water off so it can't protect it then. I can't use any deterrents because Hallie goes out to the front with me. The cats even poop right on the lawn in the front and I found a pile on the gravel...whut's up with that?

Maybe the cat was in a hurry ???
Sedan chair, Nubian slaves - yup, that'll do it!
Seriously, there are sandboxes with lids so parents can keep the neighborhood felines out. Toys "r" Us used to sell one that looked like a turtle and the lid was his shell. Very cute. They may still have it. But it's a seasonal thing.
An CHILL OUT ABOUT THE SAND!! Hallie's a smart dog! She's not going to stick her snout in it and INHALE!!
Auntie Karen
