Fin Says:: Dey are habin' an oldies party on da board so i figger we should have a hip, young HAPPENING party ober here! :nana2:
Mama and me want to know abouts all da puppies and young puppers on da board! And what was da hardest fing..? (My momma says to use da word "Hurdle") to get ober wif your pups?
Finn, just remember those "oldies" were at one time puppies, and if you think what they are doing now is ...... think what they were when they got up tp as pups. :BangHead: :BangHead:
Fin Says: I know i know, buts i fought it was only fair dat the youngins got a topic too!!!
yes Finn that is a good idea........Ollie says you can email him tips to get on your mums nerves
I think I'm a spring chicken. My age is unknown; but, the vet said "young" when he first saw me so that makes me 3-5 years old.
According to Ma, my most annoying habit is barking. I love to bark...at everything!
And the cutest thing she does is sit on her butt and beg. She can sit-up until she gets what she wants.
OOoO Fin does that too!!! He balances forever!!!! Its hilarious!
My Hilde will be 10 months old on the 16th of this month. So I consider her a Spring Chicken. Her biggest hurdle (and we are still dealing with it) is how timid she is around strangers. I've taken her to a puppy class, but it didn't seem to help. I keep taking her places where there are others, and hopeful that she will outgrow it!!!

Fin seems to have all the same hurdles as everyone so far :doah:
I would say his NUMBER one hurdle would have to be that he eats and chews EVERYTHING! IN the last little while he has chewed through the vaccum cord, ate three slippers, chews all the molding around the house, the stool rungs in the living room, a pair of head phones, tupperware, countless toys, one of his coats, chewed my high heels (discovered that at work, while WEARING them), and my pillow.. just to name a few.
And he is CONSTANTLY with us!! When does he do it~??~?~~? :BangHead:
dis is Parker: I fink i'm a spwng chicken, but I'm not really a chicken, I'm a wittle boy wif attitude.
Momma says my biggest hurdle is da potty twaining. I pees a lot.......everywhere.

Sammy is a spring chicken at an estimated age of 2. He has the same biggest hurdle as Parker. We are still struggling with potty training. I am glad to hear someone else is also still having this problem.
Zena checking in. I am 3 years 10 months. I still try to get into everything :angel4:.
I had the potty problem too but then mom got ruthless and put me in my crate if I didn't go when she thought I should. I learned pretty quickly than that if I didn't want to spend all my time in the boring crate I better go potty. :thumb:

Patches is three years old has been potty trained at about 9 months old the longest potty training I have ever dealt with on any of my dogs.
I was told years & years ago how some dog show people potty train their dogs, get a 6 ft leash,it is a pain but it works if you are diligent about it. Does not make any difference how old the dog is puppies, rescues, ages 1-10. Put the leash on go to the potty area you have chose use. Stand in one spot they can go around you on the 6 ft, leash keeps their mind on what they are suppose to be doing.Use the same place each time of course you have to clean up the poo.Go out to the spot every 2 hours after eating, naps ,playing any time they are sniffing around tell them to go potty or what ever words you want to use but use same words each time. If they go potty PRAISE like it is the greatest thing you ever saw. If they do not go go back in the house crate or put in a potty proof area until next time you take them out. If sneaking around to pee in the house. Leash them to you no sneaking off if you cannot watch them put them in their potty proof area. Females can & do have UTI"s (Urinary tract infections) need vet care also UN-neutered males can have Prostate problems that will make them pee more and drink more water.Back to potty training if your dog has an accident in the house hit your self over the head with a rolled up newspaper just kidding.Really the more times they have accidents in the house the longer it takes to get them trained.Always clean up with something like Nature's Miracle if you have a black lite they really work to find pee spots. Just keep taking them out yes you need to stay with them very hard to tell when these low puppers go. If you are diligent this will work, great for going on trips, rain, snow, sleet they will hurry up. When they learn what you want and are good at it soon you can just let them out tell them to go potty and they do some people hang a bell on the door hanging down where the dog can ring it. You ring it each time soon the dog will ring it to go out anyway that was the plan. Of course with younger puppers you may need to take them out more often. Some give treats but the dogs are smart they have known to ring the bell to go out just to get a treat so if you do that I would not give a treat every time. Praise is the key and watching them like a hawk + going with them each time until they learn what you want.Good Luck to all with Potty training problems.
Dis is Porky Pie and I'm 4. I'm almost a middle-ager, but I act likes a puppy still. :headbang: I wike to find wots of twubbles and run around my house. My mama got me potty twained weally good by taking me out ebery 2 hours round da clock when I was a baby, and den gwadwally, incweasing da time to 4 hours, den 6 hours. She was tired abter a monf of doing dat, but it workeded. Now I onwy hab accidents if I'm sick or get REALLY scared by da funder. We call dose my "leaks". Mama has a genewal schedule of when I go, so its da same ebery day (almost) and dat makes it easier for me to go potty outside too.
Thanks to everyone for the potty training tips!
Sammy has been with us for about 4 months. We have a fenced backyard, and we generally just let the boys out to do their thing. I suspect that he is so preoccupied with the sights, sounds, and smells outside that he forgets what he is supposed to do. He also does not usually go to the bathroom on walks. Our other boys pee multiple times on every walk (other dogs need to know they have walked by!), but Sammy is so focused on the walk that he doesn't go.
I need to step up the potty training now before the weather gets too cold.

Darcel, I had the same problem with Elli. She's a year old (Sept 1) and I've had her the last 4.5 months - got her at about 8 months. She was 'barky' with other dogs and very shy with people - not aggressive, at all - just made it clear she didn't want people touching her. DD and another friend of mine suggested taking her to a conformation class (where the show dogs learn how to act in the ring). Those dogs are exposed to so much that they are very mellow. It worked wonders for Elli. She even made friends with an Irish Wolfhound named Gus. She now sees all dogs as potential playmates and is getting better with people - even playing with kids. I've been told to keep it up for a minimum of a year.
Fin isnt potty trained either, but its totally our fault. We live in a condo, so its such a hassle to take him out at the same time all the time that we mess up alot.
He also is kinda weird around people. He loves us obivously, and my mom and one of my friends. And little kids. He likes other dogs. But doesnt want people petting him. Which is so weird because i brought him EVERYWHERE with me when he was a baby and he was always being petted. Plus, i still take him everywhere. (Oh yeah he likes the people at the drivethru too ha ha)
Mama calls me ONE CRAZY PUPPY !!!! Dis is Toby River...I just turned 2 yrs old (or that is the day mama gave me for my BD). She says I keep her on my toes, seyz I am full of pee and vinegar...whuteber dat means :dontknow:
Fin Says: Hoomans are so weird...

Thanks, I will definitely look into that. The lady at the puppy class suggested taking her out among others, which I try to do at least once a week. But with work and trying to take care of my 81 year old Dad across town, it's been hard. But will do better (I keep telling myself).
