Do you think it is possible to train Patches to get along with a cat ??? We live where there is a cement yard behind us they make the concrete blocks, pipes and such it is huge about 2 city blocks long and a city block wide.Next to that a detention area next to that small wooded area with a creek. We have allot of wild life all kinds we have a mouse problem every fall & winter I'm tired of it when we had a cat it was less of a problem. Hubby puts out poison helps some I'm scared the dogs will get into it even though hubby says puts it where they can not get into it??? I just do not trust it plus Patches might eat a dying or dead rodent would not put it past her.
Patches has heard cats in Spring we have feral cats in the Cement yard Patches goes nuts when she sees them or hears them. Was wondering if I got a kitten if she would accept it of course I would keep it in a crate at first only letting it out when Patches is outside or
in her crate. Next problem hubby loves cats over dogs so he would show a kitten allot of affection and spend time playing with it scared he would ignore Patches which would break her heart. She really loves her Daddy sits on his lap allot might be a problem causing her to be jealous of the kitten??? if that is possible. I would not mind a indoor outdoor cat but live on a very busy street which is not good for a cat all the fights they get into and diseases they get while being loose now days not good to have cats loose outside. Just wondering if it would be worth trying at all. Patches Mom
Anyone else try it cat vs Dachshund ????
Both my Jessie and Hallie love(d) cats. When I first got Hallie and Sophie and the little boy though, they together wanted to chase them so I had to keep them separated. It took me a little while after Hallie was an only child here to get her over wanting to chase my 2 cats, then they became best buddies. Hallie still loves cats and will shadow them when we visit friends with cats but of course she would bark and get excited if one were to say suddenly come through her yard or on the porch. I think every dog will be different, no way to tell what Patches will do until or if you try. I remember a couple stories on the board here were the doxies killed a kitten they brought home...so would be wise as you say to keep them strictly supervised at least at first. I am not sure about the jealousy thing? I would be really afraid of poisoned mice too though Patches or Buddy could easily get part of one of those down and get poisoned themselves.
Patches will do fine was a cat, the cat will tell him when he is too frisky, and since Patches claimed the space first, the cat will learn no to tread on toes and will know his/her place in the pecking order.
My two have gotten along very well with the cats I have brought into the home. Just be careful and closely supervise things at first.
