I am crying so hard right now. Porky and I went on our morning walk and turned down a street. As we turned the corner, we saw a German Shepherd tied to a tree in the front yard and two police officers with their guns pointed at it. The owner was screaming and crying, the dog catcher was standing by. I tried to turn and run before I saw what I didn't want to, but we were too late.
I am so angry at the owner's of the dog, not the police. They never took the time to train this puppy they chose to bring home. It became a danger to the neighbors and so they tried to fence it in. Unfortunately, they didn't think that the dog could go through the fence. The owner caught the dog and the police were forced to act. The dog would not even let them come in the yard. I do not blame the police for what they had to do, the dog was a danger. I will never forget the look on that dog's face when the guns were pointed at it.
Porky screamed when he saw it, I tried so hard not to let him see. I am wishing we would have never gone on our walk today. If I'd known we'd see that turning the corner, we would have gone the other way. I'm so upset. The police were kind enough to come apologize for not closing off the street and making me have to witness the whole thing. Porky is still shaking, I gave him some rescue remedy to help calm him. I hope he will forget all about it when he wakes up.
I'm sorry if I upset anyone with this post, I just needed to talk get it out.
That´s heartbreaking and we can quite understand how upset both you and Porky are feeling. Poor you and poor German Shepherd. So much for animal rights. Why on earth didn´t they take action earlier in enough time to save the poor animal from it´s owners. Extreme measures of shooting the dog with tranquillizing darts and taking him to a safe place to be retrained would have been better than killing him..it´s disgusting.

Sorry you and porky had to witness such a horrible act. It's not the cops fault, I think they shot the wrong animal...if you get me drift.

That is so terrible! I would be scarred for life by that incident.
People are just so irresponsible. Our dogs are NEVER running around the neighborhood unsupervised. Our boys can't threaten neighbors because they are safely tucked away in our fenced yard. Those people obviously did more than fail to train that poor German Shepard. They did not provide him with a secure fence, did not socialize him, left him unattended to escape the yard, and probably contributed to his aggression issues by some kind of mistreatment. If they couldn't handle him, they should have given him to rescue before this happened. We see stuff like this around here with pitbulls. People in the city buy them, train them to be mean to protect their drug houses, then let them escape to attack people and get themselves shot. Disgusting!

Very sorry that you & Porky had to go though that hopefully Porky just reacted to the Gunshot sound not seeing the actual death of the GSD Lets hope it dose not affect Porky. I know it will stay with you forever but hopefully in time it will be less & less traumatic for you .Patches Mom
Thats just terrible. I hope you and Porky are ok. Thats such a horrible thing to witness. Makes me sick hearing about it, let alone being there...
I agree that that kinda seemed like extreme measures. If the dog was restrained, why didnt they just tranq it instead of shooting it in front of the owners and on a busy street, with the sog so aggitated? I could understand if it was loose, but i guess they had their reasons.
Re Read your post in so many ways that is wrong,wrong,wrong I would blame the police since the dog or puppy as you said it was a puppy.If the owner had caught the dog/puppy it was tied the animal control person should have done there job. If they would not or could not they should have backed off a little if the owner caught the dog/pup why did they not let the owner put the dog/pup in the animal control truck.The animal control person could have taken it to the shelter dealt with it there out of public view.
The only way the police should have shot the dog/pup is if it was going to get loose from being tied to the tree the Police have shot allot of dogs for less.
A long time ago my husband was cleaning his guns Abby a female Bouvier we had at the time had never seen a gun before she did not like it one bit and barked at it + she slunk around in the house all the time they were out. I thought it was such a strange behavior I called the breeder asked if Abby had been around guns before she said no we both thought it was strange behavior how did she know they might be dangerous?Hubby has since sold them no where to go shoot them since his mother sold her land.
How awful and in my opinion, this was ridiculously dealt with. Animal control deals with vicious animals. That's what they do. Why in the world couldn't they have subdued the dog......even with a tranquilizer gun if really necessary... and taken it in their truck to the city pound to be evaluated and dealt with there? To do this nasty business in public is way so not okay! I'm soooo sorry that you and Porky had to see it happen. That poor animal, if only its owners had take some steps to train their pet, but then..........people can be sooooo dense and oblivious about such things. They only see "ooooh, what a cute puppy" and have NO idea how to raise it.
