Title: Quilts
Post by: Roberta on September 14, 2009, 12:56:34 AM
This first set is a quilt I did for my brother, I was reprising the foundation method before going back to the Califonia stars
I had done a small star to try it out so used it to piece the back and of course one has to have the Dachies testers in

This I still have to quilt, I went to a class last Nov but with all the move etc I did not get back to it till May, I also had got fed up was going to use it as a centre of a quilt, till the girls in my group said" if you don't do all 4, you wil always look at it and wish you had done the other 3" so I did the other 3. These are Califonia Stars

Lastly I finnished these to-day. I have one that sits in the family room for times that it gets chilly (not often) and has polar fleece inside it so it wahes easily and drys quickly. Well my sister was going the other day and she said something like that would be good for the caravan, so I've done them as a surprise for her one for each bunk out of the left overs from mine and other bits in my stash.
The quality control system AKA da gang are on the other camera.

These are, of course, beautiful. The California stars one is simply amazing. The detail is phenomenal. I can't imagine the time it would take to do one of those stars, much less four!
I never thought of using polar fleece in the middle. It makes a lot of sense and would be really warm and lightweight.

The squares don't take long as long as you cut accuratley both from go start to finnish a couple of days. The compass took about 2 weeks to piece and then I had to work out how to appique using the machine then about 4 days to quilt  and finnish.
The California stars, I got quicker as I went the first took two months, as the centre is made of 4 arcs, then the next circle is made of 4 arcs but each one is made of 5 sections of 5, and you stitch that onto the first then the outer is made of 8 arcs put together then sttiched to the inner ones. A lot of bad language was flying arround.
Just about finnished one made of 64 stars.
Polar fleece is great it works almost like cotton, but make sure you wash it first as it does shrink.
The monsters are involved in all levels, your fabric gets pulled down to make a bed, cotton goes missing found later as a mess.......................to sitting in the middle of a trial layout of blocks with the look "we're over this mum, time for us"

My grandmother  used to crochet ripple afghans all the time and our cat would claim the current one being worked on as hers and sleep on it.  One Saturday we were getting ready to go to church and called the cat, but she didn't respond or make an appearance, so we left.  Once we came home I called her again and she came walking out of the garbage bag where the currently being worked on afghan was being stored and looked at us as if to say,

"Why are you bothering me I was napping on the bestest blanket ever."
