Last night while I was sleeping, I sensed that I had a dog trying to wake me up. While I was sleeping on my back, I opened my eyes to find Sgt sitting on my chest looking down at me. Once he noticed that I started to open my eyes, he helped me open them more by licking my nose as if to say...."Dad....wake up!......Come on Dad....wake up!.....I have to go!"
So I get up and in the process, Libby gets up from under the covers wondering what she is missing out on. Pick both of them up out of bed and go to the back door to let them out. Libby goes outside, but Sgt is no where to be seen. I go back to the bedroom and find him in the bathroom getting a drink of water. He woke me up because he was thirsty. He didn't want to go outside, but since I was up, he decided that he should at least go outside too. Just a quick trip. Then back to the big bed and they fell right back to sleep.
I love the doxie life! (Even though it means getting up at 1am) :thumb:
It's the small things in life that make it worth living! Ya gotta love em!
Eric, I totally understand what you just experienced.
Mike,
I think your signature, "There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.," just summed up my experience I had last night.
Way to go Sgt - get dad up to take care of you !!!! HA !!! It IS all worth it, isn't it !!!! Nothing better than those warm little bodies curling up next to you and settling back in to go to sleep !!!!
Get ready dad - you will have double the pack very soon !!!!
I get that all the time. Ken has sleep apnea and uses a CPAP machine. The puppers will not wake him because it blows air and makes noise...so Mom gets the wake-up!
Cocoa stretches her head over my neck. If I fail to wake up then she gets nose to nose...and starts licking! Yep, that'll wake you right out of a sound sleep
On the other hand, beats cleaning up a mess :)
During the week, I get up for work at 3:30am. I feed the dogs breakfast at that time and then they go back to bed and sleep with my husband who gets up at 5am. If I don't feed the dogs, they will bug my husband. On weekends, though, Willy thinks the 3:30am breakfast time still holds. He will get up and off the bed, and BARK AT ME! The little squirt! I tell him "Willy, get back in bed!" And he does, reluctantly, and he lays down and lets out this big sigh.
LOL! I fixed that problem. I have a cup of water by the bed for Dottie.
She drove me nuts way back in potty training days. She'd look at me
like I was stupid in the middle of the night outside & run back in to
get a drink of water!
Frankie is always on my head at 5am!!! We don't get up til about 6:30.
Nothing like waking up to your hair being pulled by a 12 lb dog on your head!!!
I dread the time change already!
Gotta love 'em!!
LisaW, Dottie & Frankie
I am still sleeping in The Big Bed with Schnitzel, Strudel, and sometimes Kleine if she whines. John is still on the air mattress in fear of hitting my foot in the middle of the night. So Luther sleeps with John (of course). The pooch pads are all over the floor at night, but Kleine just wants to pee outside, so 3 am last night she starts in with her "awoooing". John, who has slept through alarms going off and hurrcaines, is oblivous. So I have to yell "JOHN, KLEINE HAS TO GO." to which I get an "ugg". Then he gets up and dances around the room bouncing off the walls in his sleep stupor until he finds where she is and like a robot, goes and takes her out and then places her in the Big Bed with me. Then she goes "awoo" again. This time she wanted a drink, which thankfully I kept a bowl by the bed for her. Now John is snoring. Loud. Strudel is having a dream and kicking her feet. And I am dreaming I am in Hawaii, without a broken ankle, doing the hoola.
LOL these are great. I LOVE bedtime, I scoop up my Hallie girl and we snuggle and watch TV in bed. This last week she has just started to wake me up (although not until it's wake up time thankfully!) by planting me a big wet one, right on the lips. First time she did that I woke with a start and about flew out of bed. Now I tell her that is the sweetest way to wake up...she has also just started to sit by the back door and whine when the dryer is on. I finally figured out, she is wanting me to come get the warm clothes from the dryer so she can snuggle in them. They are so smart and sooo precious!
Yes why go out and have no audience!!!
Emma is still the only one to go out by herself, but gets routinely lost on the way back. She also has this thing when we put them to bed turn the lights out, and no matter if we have offered her a drink before turning them out, she gets up, slurps then waits to get put back to bed.
Geesh, this sound all so familiar!! LOL!! Usually around 1 or 2 am one will get up to go outside. Luckily for 2 doggy doors to the outside, I don't have to get up
The rest will follow, and on getting back into bed, they pile up at the ramp, waiting for me to lift the duvet up so they can get in! I'm so used to this, I even do in when I'm 90% asleep LOL! Jessie will barge in, steamrolling her way to the window spot. Heino will quickly worm his way in, collapsing at my feet. For Simson I have to lift myself up because he wants to lie on the other side of me, in my arm, and Tommie will fall in on the side nearest to the ramp, into my other arm. We immediately fall asleep again
