Title: Obsessed
Post by: Marcia from MI on September 03, 2009, 07:23:47 AM
Danni is the first puppy I have ever had, Eddie was 10 months when I adopted him, so I am learning new things every day.  When I first brought Danni home I bought her a small stuffed bone, only because small dog toys are very hard to find.  So now that she is 2 months old and weighs 3.6 pounds Danni has discovered the bone and loves to play fetch with it.  Every morning after she goes outside and eats her breakfast we indulge in a lengthy game of fetch that lasts about 20 minutes.  Then the dear baby crashes into a silent sleep mode and vegetates for almost an hour then its back to the game.

This morning I threw  the bone into the kitchen, where Cleo kitty was having a drink of water and Danni sproinged into the kitchen after her bone, the she saw Cleo.  Danni stopped and politely waited for the kitty to walk by then she resumed her quest for the bestest toy bone ever.  It was too cute, but Cleo was not amused.

Does Danni get to chill out after she eats her breakfast before playing fetch it is always a good idea no matter how old they are to chill out an hour before & a hour after they eat. Helps digestion go smoothly yes this is mostly for bigger dogs especially  ones with deep chests but does not hurt to practice it on all dogs.
If you have not thought of it now is the perfect time to train her teaching come, sit, down, heel. Make it fun she will be learning life long commands every one will be amazed. If you have other people in your home you can do a round robbin everyone sits in a circle with treats every one takes turns calling the pup when she comes she gets a treat. This works better before meals.Did  you know you can train a pup to go potty on command this is great for when it is raining, snowing,on trips, & at night if interested PM me will tell you how.Sorry do not know what you know about training dogs but if you already know all this great if you do not just sending you some ideas you might like to use.

The best part of all of this is she knows I am the pack leader.  When she comes in from outside Danni won't go up into the kitchen(there's 1 step up) until I do and shewill let me go first into the bedroom when we go to bed.  As for training yoiu only have to tell her once to do something and she gets it.  And she has  to sit before she gets her 1/2 a cookie, which she does now on command.  So we are making progress.
