I had to be out of town on Wednesday. I left very early that morning,so Lucy had to spend the night with my sister. Although my son was with her she did not appreciate her aunt's hospitality. My sister said she searched and searched, whined and whined for me all night and all day. I felt so sorry for her. I knew she was not happy even before I left. When I walked out the door, she started scratching and whimpering for me. It was if she was saying "Wait, did you forget me?", "Don't forget to take me with you!"
Do any of your puppers do that when you leave them overnight?
Needless to say, she was very excited to see me the next evening. She heard me when I walked in the door and started "talking" to me and jumping up and down. I would assume she was fussing at me for leaving her. I felt so bad. It will be a long time before I leave her overnight again.
You are not alone.....I felt less guilty going away without my human kids than I do now without the furkids! They have the look that makes you feel guilty! I always make sure I bring them home something. My grown son's ask where is their gift, when I get home! :dontknow:
I have been lucky so far - any time I had to be out of town for a night - dad has been there to keep the kids company - but he always says they keep a look out for me - and they go to bed early and sleep on my pillow !!!!
Of course, they give me the sad L@@K each morning as I leave them for work !!!! It breaks my heart.....
Ozzy will start pacing around and whining when we get the suitcases out. If we don't put him in his kennel while loading the car, he will attempt to get out the door, and into the car. Recently , we've been letting him get into the car while we are loading, which helps in quieting him down. Still, he act snervous for about 15-20 minutes, until he is SURE he going with us and not getting dropped off for boarding.
When I left for an overnight conference, I took my suitcase out and put it in the car several hours before I had to leave. I then "hung out" with him for a while. When it was time to leave, I put him in his kennel like I usually do when I have to leave for a while. He was only in the kennel an hour before hubby came home, and the guys chilled together for the next 24 hours.
Of course, this was an ideal situation where Ozzy could stay home and hang out at home with a family member, and I still felt guilty for leaving him.
When I got home the following day, Ozzy nearly turned himself inside-out.
I just had to leave Willy at the vet yesterday morning because he was going to get his teeth cleaned. When I turned over his leash to the technician, he wanted to follow me out the door. It broke my heart, I could tell he was confused as to why I was leaving without him. Thankfully he didn't try to bolt nor did he cry, the tech had no problem with him once I was out of sight.
My kids are a mess!
I get the same sad look I'm sure all of you do when I do lock up
to go to work. Let me tell you they are just like human kids.
How do I know? I forgot something one morning last week &
had to go back to the house. I went in & opened the doggie
gate (anticipating howling). They were in the back yard
digging, barking & running wild!! They never knew I was home!!!
I think they throw a party every day they just want me to
feel guilty!!
They like going to Grandbo's cause there's so much going on.
She has a zoo! She says they do good after settling down.
Grannies last weekend was pretty good too.
This was Frankie's first trip. Everytime I walked out the door
he whined & cried like crazy. I had to go do shopping for
her so I told them if they were good they'd get a cheeseburger.
Now don't frown! It's only once in a blue moon. ;-)
Grannie said they started whining at the door & she told them
"Now you heard your Mommie. She said if you were good
you'd get a cheeseburger." She said they went to the den
and laid down till they heard me at the door. LOL!
Can't do a thing with my spoiled BRATS but
love them to pieces!!!
LisaW, Mini's Dottie (2.5yr Red Sable) Frankie (8 mo Black & Tan)
My first few weeks of late and just one overnight(I work in Pathology) drove Nick nuts as they went to see if I was coming if any noise came from outside. He says now they know when I call and say I'm on my way "THAT MUM"S COMING" man the door.
Awww all these stories make me want to cry. Except yours Lisa, LOL you crashed the doxie party by coming back inside LOL !!!! I rarely have to leave Hallie but when I do I have taped her and she trots from the back door to her window and does this mournful little howling. :sad11: It breaks my aunts heart to come visit her when I'm gone because she says Hallie will run past her and stare at the front door, when usually she loves my aunt and wants her to hold her. (ohhh I'm getting teary again!) I have to leave her for a half day both next Friday and Saturday and I'm already stressed. Poor babies they just want to be with us all the time and vice versa!
Mine know the routine during weekdays, but when I go out on the weekends to church or go riding, I usually leave them inside with the TV on and the door open (safety gate is locked) so they lay in their nest and look outside. Theyl'll just stand there and watch me leave, Simson will sometimes grab my pants and hold on to it. That just breaks my heart. Otherwise they settle down quickly.
