It's been raining for a few days now, and Murphy and Millie both pull this trick where they go under the kitchen table and roll over onto their backs when they don't want to go outside in the rain to potty. I always hold onto their thighs and just slide them out from under the table so I can pick them up and take them out. This morning, when I was sliding Murph out, I accidentally hit his left shoulder against one of the chair legs and he's hurting now. Poor baby grunts whenever he moves wrong-it reminds me of when we get a crick in our necks and turn the wrong way and it makes us go "ugh". He's walking fine, thank goodness, so I'm hoping it's just a bad bruise.
Cross your fingers for me that he's feeling better in the next few days.
In better news, my house in Tacoma sold-it closed today, so I'm now mortgage free-I'm very relieved.
It was an accident Mommy Kathleen. I bet Murphy has forgiven you already and he'll be feeling better tomorrow.
Fin Says: You better poop in her shoes for dis...
Amy pulls the same stunt anywhere, and with her history I usually have to walk away and turn quickly and grab her before she does t again. Poor murphy did you manage a treat for the bruise.

Ouch! If he´s walking fine it´s probably just bruised but sore anyway. I´m sure he´ll feel loads better once a day goes by. They must look awfully cute when they do that under the table though.
Believe me I understand the roll-over problem. It´s Red´s favourite party trick: if we have gusets and he feels he´s not getting enough attention, he lies right in front of them, all four paws in the air, tail thumping the parquet floor getting faster and faster (and louder and louder), giving the "look" from upside-down and sofly singing till somebody takes pity and goes over to tickle his tum.....if it takes too long he does consecutive rolls till he´s right up alongside.
A variant on this is when he´s feeling playful before a walk. Both Red and Islay go naked at home so we need to put collars and harnesses on before they go out. Every time you try to put one on Red, he rolls over and flips out of reach. He can get up quite a speed and manage a dozen continuous spinning rolls sideways and further away from us with each one. Once you get him he´s delighted to walk, whatever the weather, to the end of the world and back. When he gets back form the walk he waits alongside Islay on the entrance mat, all four paws in the air again, till we clean his paws and "privates" with baby wipes. Once we´ve done that he´ll stand up again.
Little Princess Islay uses the roll-over for when she doesn´t want to walk any more ie.:anywhere noisy, anywhere near traffic, anywhere dusty, anywhere new, anywhere urban. There are two options: pull on her lead and scoot her along the ground on her back (NOT and option and we weould give up, before she did anyway), turn back and go home ) not a good option ans not always practical) or pick her up and walk three steps and put her down again - the usual solution. 4kgs of irresistible over-íntelligent teckel get the better of my 1.85m tall husband every time....
When we come in she waits on the mat but stands still and lifts up each paw in turn to be cleaned, the leans forward to we can clean her "skirt", feathers and tail...
I really do believe they pass their skills down through the generations; the "look", the roll, the sit-down-won´t budge, and so many more. I adore them all.
How is Murphy doing today? Hopefully he's feeling good. I can't tell you how many times I have stepped on one of my boys' paws and felt horribly guilty.
Well, I'm happy to report that Murphy seems to have recovered nicely. He's still a little sore, but the difference in one day is amazing. He's hopping around like his usual self, playing and generally being silly.
Sending him some get beddeh rays.....it happens to all of us mommy...dus an accident. Yay for your house selling !
Oh! Don't feel bad, we've all had accidents before. I'm glad Murphy is feeling better. Hope you are too!! :comfort: I've stepped on Porky's toes once and felt awful, in two minutes, he didn't even care.
Once i was running around getting ready for work when i first got Fin, and i step on his little toes.. WITH HIGH HEELS ON!
He yelled so loud and i thought i broke his little toes and i sat on the floor and hugged him and cried and made myself late for work and he was totally fine, didnt even limp at all.
Kathleen, I am so relieved to hear that Murphy is feeling better..thank goodness. Congratulations on selling your house :apls:
I posted to this earlier but it seems to have vaporized!
That's great he recovered so fast! I'm sure everyone does this to their kids at some point, I know I have! I know how bad it makes you feel, but sounds like Murphy has already forgot about it and it will be Mom who will be remembering it. He's a lucky boy to have such a great mom.
Congrats on your house selling too! That isn't easy to do in this economy. My Uncles house has been for sale for months with no lookers he has decided to just move back in.
Yeah, it wasn't easy to sell and I came out of it with basically nothing, but I'm not having to pay a mortgage, so now I can afford to get a part time job and go back to school. I originally listed it for $198,500 and I sold it for $165,000 (bought it for $185,000), if that gives you an idea of how bad it is out there. After paying the 6% realtor commission and 3% closing costs for the buyer, I came out of it with just enough to make a car payment or two :2funny: Like I told my mom, though, it's better than a kick in the pants!
Wow. That's really sad! I sure hope things turn around soon. I have heard that things are picking up a little but very slowly. Yeah maybe you'll have enough to pay a vet bill or two LOL.
Oh, Kathleen, I know how that must have made you feel! I think we all have similar stories. As hard as we try to be careful, something always happens. Is he better today?

Much! In fact, he got to go for his walkies again today after a two day break (my mom said he HOWLED when I left him behind) and he's been very chipper indeed. I just bought him some new food too (went with the Chicken Soup light, after our discussion last week), so I'm hoping to get about a pound off of him. Luckily, he's a complete chow hound and doesn't care what's in his dish as long as he gets to eat it. Reilly is getting the same thing and she turned her nose up at it the first time I gave it to her.
Don't feel too bad. It was an accident and it happens. One of the things about having small dogs underfoot is that you're going to eventually step or trip on them. In my 17 years of dachshund ownership, I can't even begin to count how many times these poor guys have gotten bumped or stepped on. I once caught Rudy-angel's tail in the door and broke it. Zeke still has a crick in his tail from a similar experience with his original owner.
