Title: Hello from Lake City, Florida
Post by: SherriFL on July 28, 2009, 08:32:01 AM
I just rescued/adopted my first Dachshund from the local animal shelter.  I have owned several different breed types and mixes and currently own 2 Bassetts.  I have never had a dog that has had this wonderful personality that my Dachshund has.  I've had Ollie less than a week and he is already fused into our family.  My 2 Bassetts love him.  Hubby is even warmed up to him.  He is a 1 yr old black and tan miniature long haired dachshund that was surrendered by a family for unknown reasons.  I changed his name from Ichy to Oliver Twist (Ollie for short).  He weighs a whole 8.8 lbs.  I'm giving him antibiotics for a kennel cough he got at the shelter.  He is so resilient.  He has been through a lot in a 2 week time and seems to know he has his forever home.  I know in my heart my 19 yr old cat guided me to Ollie.  She had a stroke the weekend before I adopted Ollie and I had to have her put down.  I did not want another cat because I knew there would never be one like her.  She knew it too, so, I'm sure she guided me to Ollie.  I took cat food into the shelter in her name, got my kitty fix, and just happened to walk down the isle to see the dogs.  There he was.  Although, I was not interested in a male dog, I played with him through the wire.  The next day, after work, I had an overwhelming urge to go back to the shelter and take him out to the shelter yard and play with him.  I adopted him the next day and haven't regretted it.  I know he was heaven sent from Whiskers.  I'm glad I found this community.  Thanks.

Welcome from Tennessee

My third dachshund was a rescue, shorty after I joined the rescue group.

I have absolutley no regrets about joining and if I had to do it all over again I would do everything the same.

Here is what Ollie has done for our Bassets.  They are a hoot!  Maybe Miss Bubble Butt (Millie) will slim down a little now.
