Question: How can you tell that a handicapped dog has a broken leg?
Answer: The leg is facing the wrong direction- in this case, backwards.
Johanna has no feeling in her legs at all, so she is no different than normal. I have no idea what happened, as she was fine Sunday and Monday she has a broken leg.
The vet in town is away on vacation, so we have to take her to the vet in Brewer.
So, she is doing very well other than her leg being broken.
OK, so I got back from the Brewer Vet this evening. Well, she is still as happy as ever, even in the vet's office.
The bad news: Her leg is shattered at the joint and the bone ended up through the skin.
So, the final result is...
COMING SOON: Johanna, the amazing 3-legged tripod cart dog!
Her leg will be amputated tomorrow morning, and she will be coming home on Thursday. I consulted with the vet and we discussed her future in her cart. So, they will cut as much as they need to, but they will leave enough of the leg so she can easily use her cart.
It will be strange to see Johanna with 3 legs, but I know that her legs are nothing at all to her anymore, so she will not miss her leg at all. Now she will have one less thing that can get injured and/or infected.
So, wish Johanna well as she sits and waits tonight in the vet's office waiting for her surgery tomorrow.

OK, so Johanna got out of surgery at 6PM. She is doing well, resting comfortably. SHe should be coming home tomorrow. We all miss her here, her high-pitched bark echoing through the house. Pork Chop looks funny all by himself in their crib. He will be happy for sure to get his crib-mate back into the house!

So glad to hear that Johanna's in good spirits! Continued best wishes for a smooth recovery -
Jojo is back home!
She is her usual happy self, running and playing as usual.
Her bandages will need to be changed every day for 2 weeks until her stitches come out.
She has antibiotics as well as pain meds (the vet insisted, just in case it does bother her) to take for several days as well.
"Look at my pretty pink bandages!"
