The 4th of July is definitely not one of Zeke's favorite holidays. With various firecrackers and home fireworks (all illegal in Maryland) going off, Zeke was utterly terrified. He went down to our bottom floor and cowered under the computer desk in the dark...probably the "biggest hole" he could find himself in. Margie eventually got him (I was out playing a gig with my band) and put him back in his crate where he burrowed under the covers and seem to settle down. Zora had little reaction, and Jessica was fast asleep by the time people start lighting stuff off...she just slept through it all.
I think Zeke is going to a couple extra hugs and some treats.
Next year you might start a week ahead or two weeks ahead with some Rescue Remedy or ask your vet for something poor little guy.Patches has been barking at them which I find strange,we live by the Fairgrounds have heard the BIG Fireworks at Drillers stadium for years.Baseball played there too bad they are going to move the stadium downtown I think it will be a huge mistake.Guess Patches does not mind the big booms she does not like the small firecrackers Buddy sleeps though it all.
We keep Parker in the basement when there are fireworks or thunder storms. He doesn't seem to mind, but I have noticed he sits firmly on my knee until it's over. I think he's just a little apprehensive.
Our angel Eddie use to pace, and couldn't relax or sit still. Loud noise were an issue with him.
I'm a very loud person, I'm always crashing around and tripping (I'm a tad clumsy) and at first Fin was always taking off and hiding and having little tinkles.. But now nothing really bothers him. And on Canada day there were firecrackers and whatnot and he didn't really seem to care.
He just became accustomed to it i guess.
Sometimes with thunder he goes into watch dog alert but he never seems scared.
Zeke gets defensive at thunderstorms...barking back. In this case, he was so frightened, he simply froze up.
Rudy-angel used to go "watchdog" during thunderstorms. If they happened in the middle of the night, he would sit upright, back his butt right up next to my body and stand guard. He clearly was frightened as I could feel him tremble, but his sense of duty to his master overruled any fears he may have had.
Patches barks at thunder & firecrackers the Big Fireworks do not bother her.
Awwwww poor Zeke ! All mine did was bark :dontknow: Bet a few extra lovies and a treat or two will help !
Awwwww Poor Zeke!! My three were scared to death!!!! They hid in the bedroom under the covers and under a table....they definitely got extra smoochies and kisses.
Poor Zeke!
Scooter didn't even notice the fireworks outside. He was far too busy demanding bites of the bacon cheeseburger I bought him for a special holiday treat...
