Hello all. I am new to the site and hoping to get a bit of advice from those in the know about wieners. I recently adopted 2 a doxie mix and a purebred from the spca about 1 week ago. The pure breed is a bit of a senior citizen (8+ years) and the mix is about a year. I have walked them a couple of times together on a dual lead leash. I have noticed my senior (called Otto) has had to slow down on a couple of walks and his back little leg will start to shake. I have stopped walking him and carried him the rest of the way home but 12 lbs can get heavy depending on how far from home you are. He recovers quikly and is spry by the time we get home but I worry. I was looking at those carriers that you can put them in and strap to your body, anyone have any suggestions which or better for their long bodies? Anyone used one? Trying to make my Otto feel comfortable. Thanks all!
Hello, we have just bought a light pusher (human) and then added a bit of 4 inch foam to get amy straight, we were looking at doggy one's but they cost a fortune and weigh a ton. Amy has had a few back issues that is the reason we bought it, and she quite likes it.
Remember Otto may not have done a lot of walks so try just letting him walk for a bit then lift him for a bit, that is what I do with Amy most days, as it helps to build up muscles.
Carriers strapped to you might be difficult as you con't want their backs to be compromised. We have put amy is basket and carried her between two of us. We have also started supliments

When my husband accidentally stepped on my Bouvier puppies leg and broke it a long time ago I barowed a friends Wagon, the baby carriage is a good idea too.Even if you had some type of back pack he would still get heavy.Good Luck in your quest thank you for rescuing. Papbouv
google pet strollers or take a look at a wagon - works great !
I received a doggy carrier as a gift a long time ago. It fits over your shoulders and your doggy is in the front. I don't use it much as my girls like to walk but Maddie is getting older and I'm starting to take it along in case she gets tired. Maddie is 10 lbs.
Hello and welcome to our board! We are glad you found us. My Zoe has had back issues and I use a doggie stroller for when she gets tired during our walks. It works great. We would love to see some pictures of Otto and your other little baby. I also thank you for rescuing :apls: :apls:
Thanks for all the suggestion, I already ordered an stroller off of eBay so hopefully I will get it next week. Here is a pic of Otto, on our first day at home he jumped into my car and climbed up on drivers seat
