Title: Finally.............hopefully made the run areas safe
Post by: Roberta on June 29, 2009, 01:22:58 AM
We changed the rug in the family room for a big red rug, we bought the 3.9 metres carpet of the roll ( the roll is 3.9 M wide) and had it edged. It looks plain but it has a imbosed pattern

This sort of matches the hall runner so the rug was $660 and the runner $265 so we hope she apprieciates them

I love it! The color is very rich and inviting. I'm sure wee Amy is very appreciative. And the view, as peterparker said ... yeah, the view!

Your new home is stunning Roberta.  I'm curious though.  Is the style of your home a "typical" Australian home... both interior design and exterior architecture?  I love the way the light hits the rooms and the general feel of the interior design..  Never having been to your lovely piece of the world, I was just wondering about that.

Terri its modern "normal" except we added the BIG windows the house had smaller ones and we removed the study and dining area as they were only enough space for a table in the dining area and the study was similar as we both love books. The dining area space was added into the master bedroom and a bit into the guest room. Out here at present they use a lot of concrete on the outside for fracades which we also removed.  Most houses are open plan, and brick, now some colourbond (steel) roofs are creeping in again.
To build here you must get at least a 5 star energy rating, so you have to face north as close as possible (heating), concrete slab (retains heat) solar hot water, insulation in all walls and roof, brick, we also added a verandah and the double glazing got us a 6 star rating.
Interiors:-The people who bought our house in Melbourne (Victoria)and they were from Sydney (NSW) and they say that both states have diffrent tastes. Sydney is very  older styled they said  Melbourne was more mediteranean ie tiled floors big windows, I had not given it much thought, but I suppose its about who the dominant imigrants were in the area. Our version of interior ie tiled floors or polished boards are normal. The furniture over here at present is big square and leather and recliners seem to be in. Granite workbenches, and large stainless steel appliances are in, in the kitchen, which I find funny as hardly anyone here under 25 cooks from first principles so why spend the money. I chose laminex as its easier to look after and you don't need to feel guilty if you want to change it  in 5 years time, and I was specific about appliances as I do cook in a big way.

Both of us loved the EAmes (1970's) furniture, and wood. I suppose I'm the colour co-ordinator in the family, (we both love black), hence the bold statements of red, hence the red rugs.

The older homes are still arround more were timber or weather board, and the windows were small, and some of the old farm houses are to die for a mixture of brick and weather board and wide wide verandahs.
