Title: Patches new habit
Post by: papbouv on June 22, 2009, 05:20:16 AM
I'm not impressed with Patches new habit she sleeps in the big bed with me Buddy sleeps on the floor on his bed. Here lately Patches has been waking me up to go outside not a problem if she wants to go potty but oh no she wants to go graze. She just goes out to eat grass if I let them in they go back to bed do not get sick or anything. Granted they really do not want out side in the day time too much 98 degrees  with a heat index of 104 degrees. One night Patches woke me up at 2:30am then again at 5:30am I just have been letting Patches stay outside Buddy is with her to keep an eye on her. I really would like to get some sleep they have not been barking when out so guess it will not hurt them to be out.Our fenced yard is solid metal like sheets of metal 6 foot, they make buildings out of then a cement curb all the way around & our gate only opens from the inside.Like now Patches woke me up a 5:00am have to get up early to take hubby to doctor but 5:00am is too early do Doxie's have a snooze button somewhere?

Oh yeah they do have a snooze alarm installed and a timer too.  Sam Angel, had one.  Though he wouldn't do it in the morning if I'd get on the computer in my office he'd come in, stand there and give me the L@@K.  I would then tell him that I still had a little more to do and it would only be x amount of minutes, Sam would then leave, but then return x minutes later to let me know that time was up.  Now Cleo kitty has  started that except she'll sit on my bed in the other room and screech when time is up.

I like Finns time schedule, he seems to wake up when i do, then sleeps till like one. Then he rips around untill its bedtime.. sometimes with naps.

And he sleeps the whole night.

Maybe you need to give more activities and play to tire enough them on the day and get much sleep at night.

I have one of those :( Tofu does that as well. I think it started because I get up at night to go potty myself but now he's getting up twice a night. He will not play with toys and I can't walk him since our town does not enforce the leash law an there was a dog attacked across the street last year. Of course it was two intact males but I can't take any chances with my pups. What is a momma to do?

Would love to tire them out but when you have a small house, and it is 101 degrees outside with a heat index of 103,105,108, today the heat index was 109 degrees it is tough just getting them out the door to go potty.Hubby is home all the time since he broke his neck a few weeks ago & had surgery . It is still new to the dogs & I to have daddy home all day long.If he could use his hands and fingers better and they did not hurt all the time maybe he could teach the dogs a new trick or something.I have to keep the dogs away from him they nose his hands wanting to be petted they do not know his hands hurt. The poor dogs have been on the back burner so to speak husband uncle is going down hill fast has Lung & Brain cancer so have been sitting with him he is married to my sister. My sister has a part-time job and has to work no other way out of it.Sorry to vent every one has problems but in our family seems like they all came at the same time.Papbouv

I´m so, so sorry to hear what a rough patch you are all going through.  You certainly do need your sleep and about another 10 pairs of hands too, I imagine.  Perhaps Patches is just looking for a little more attention and is sensitive to being "on the back burner" as you put it?

We have the same problem with temperatures and high humidity here too so go out with Red & Islay before 7am for a walk, then just a quick piddle on the seafront at lunchtime, then a walk again at 9pm or so, all much shorter than we do in the cooler seasons.  We manage to compensate by cutting down on food - less activity=less food - and upping the ball-throwing in the flat and playing with them.  It´s not ideal, but helps stop the midnight roaming.

Prayers and rays heading your way for you and all your family, I hope you get some relief soon.

Maybe if you bought them a little kiddie pool? With just enough water to keep them splashing and cool? Fin LOVES the water and it always tires him out for sure. YOu could just have a little plastic one in the shade outside? Toss a bunch of toys in there and they would probably work themselves other pretty good!!
