Title: The Belly Rub
Post by: Lowriders in Ohio on June 10, 2009, 05:39:00 PM
Our new boy, affectionately nicknamed Sammy Bear because of his bear-like physique, is fitting in really well with our family.  He is sleeping in the dachshund lair under our desk, playing in the backyard, and snuggling in bed.  Sammy loves to go for walks, and he sticks his head into his harness to hurry up and get dressed for a walk.

We are absolutely smitten with Sammy already, and I suspect he feels the same.  This morning, he rolled over onto his back and let us rub his belly for the first time.  It made me so happy to know that Sammy already trusts us enough to get into that vulnerable position.  Of course, we rewarded him with lots of belly rubs and kisses!  We are so happy that he is here.  Who abandoned this treasure?

:hello2:  YAY for the belly rub !!!! It does warm your heart when they do it for the first time !!!  It took my Brandy well over a year before she showed me her belly.....now it is a ritual for us

You are the lucky ones that found your treasure..... the ones who threw him away....may they die in a fire.....

So sad, for so many.

We have the belly rub ritual every morning. Parker refuses to get out of bed without his belly rubbin. It's too funny.
So glad Sammy has found his forever home. He deserves it!

Who abandonded him?  Only God and Sammy know for sure but they ain't saying anything.I like to think there's a special place in He11 for people that abuse and neglect these animals.....

I'm really glad things are working out for ya'll and Sammy. I'm so happy he's got a good home. Your other dogs told me that Sammy would be in a good place.

The dog from Goergetown KY is a no-go. She got adopted last tuesday so thats a good thing. This dog didn't really need my help anyway, the shelter operator just wanted to get her out because the shelter was making the dog a nervouse wreck.

This morning I checked my email and there's a post from a vet in Camben SC. Seem they have a client that doesn't take care of his dogs. They talked/cajoled/bought a 9 month old dapple thats spent the last 4-5 months in a cat crate thats too small for it to turn around. Emaciated, had a testicular hernia, not socialized...and because he's spent the last 4-5 months in a crate i'd say crate training him is off the table.   The vet realized that he's too much of a challenge for most owners so she's surrendering him to me/DRNA.

This one is a true rescue and really needs some help.

Pray that I'm up to the challenge and that I can really turn him into a companion.

Aw, yay!  I'm so glad Sammy has reached the Bellyrub Stage with you!  How adorable!

It took Scooter ages before he'd even let me touch his tummy without flinching or running away.   Now he demands bellyrubs and I think it's a beautiful, beautiful thing.

How lucky for Sammy to have found such a good and loving home with you.  I cannot imagine how anyone could have let him go!

That poor little guy really does need your help!  What a terrible life confined in a cat crate for months. :cussing: You are so right that not too many people would be able to work with this little guy.  I hope he gets to you soon.  You did such a great job with Sammy that I know this new guy will be in good hands.  Plus Ms. Lucy and Mr. Wilson will show him how to have fun and just be a dachshund.  It looks like we adopted Sammy just in time for you to help this boy who really needs you.  Post pictures when he arrives.

Good luck!

I just want you all to know that i respect you all so much! It really brings me to tears when i read some of the things that you guys write! You are truely amazing people! I know that sometimes it seems that the bad outweighs the good, and everywhere you turn there is somepup in need of help. But it really raises my spirts to know there really are people out there who care.

You should all be proud and know what wonderful human beings you really are.

God bless.

Well, I AM Miss Ima DoraBelle and Auntie Karen loves me very much but . . .

I don't like belly rubs!  Auntie Karen keeps trying to get me to let her rub it, but after all:

It's MY belly and I don't want you rubbing,
Don't want you flirting,
Don't want you zerberting.
You'd be mad too, if it happened to you!

Ima
:bkiss:

Personally, I think she's a little nuts!  Beau and I will drop and roll at the blink of an eye! :hyper:

Couldn't have said it better, Guinness! :book1:
