Yesterday afternoon, they had a bone each, Amy finnished with hers adn Oliver was helping her, I was about to take it off him as enough is enough of bones. Well he came into my work room and I realized he was holding his mouth funny, I thought he had something stuck in it............No so we phone the new vet which has an after hours vet (wha whoo) and we drove him in. I think his jaw looked out of alignment, but when we got there he could not close his jaw.
After a lot omanipulation and looking he could not find anything, we think 1. he could have dislocated it and it had gone back in when he pawed it once, and now it was muscles in the wrong place and sore or 2. he had a cut a the back of the mouth. The vet thought him marvelous as he did not complain or yelp and that included pushing an pulling his jaw to check for breaks. So I'm pretty proud of him
So wither way he got an antibiotic shot and anti inflam plus pain shot, and I've to give him medcalm for three days and let the vet know how he is on MOn, to-day if he is not right we have to call him again, but he is managing to close his mouth but keeps licking and we're trying to stop him yawning.
I would have loved to take a phot last night as it looked like he was smiling.

Oh my gosh - that is really scary !!! Glad you took him in to be looked at....Ollie - don't scare mommy like that !!! Rays on the way !
Good grief!! I have never heard of such a thing. Those guys are both just determined to make a lot of "new home" memories for you aren't they. Poor Ollie! Hallie's jaw pops and she will flinch when it does when she raises her head to kiss me, it gives me the willies....I don't think there will be any bones in this girls future. That is a new one on me Mr. Ollie, you take care of your mouth and no yawning until you are healed up.
Roberta why don't you just buy your vet a Yacht and be done with it! :doah: They must know both the kids very well by now as well as your pocketbook.
Wonder if OLiver is trying to get his jaw to re- aligned by Yawing ??? Gee hope he gets well soon and no more trips to the vet.Rays to OLiver too can't hurt anything.
Just a few more gray hairs for Mum and a little less change in the pocketbook! We'll send rays to Oliver for a fast recovery! As for bones, mine don't get them....we had an incident with Sarge a few years ago which scared the p**p outta me and from that time on, I won't let them have bones. They can have bully sticks or Dingos but that is all......that's their bones!
Oh Oliver! Giving your mummsey a heart attack again. Sure glad you're okay, fella. Geez, I woulda FREAKED!
 mumz is a happier person as I can now close my mouth and I'm not yawning as much, Iz promise not to do it again, and mum said there won't be a chance for alooooooooooong time.
Mr O
Oh No!! I'm glad he's doing better now! We hope he recovers fully real quick!
We have a vet that comes to our office that specializes in animal dentistry. I'll have to ask him about this the next time I see him. In humans, it sounds just like the TMJ getting locked open and sometimes if you (the person with the problem) move it just right it will go back in place. It may feel funny for a few days and would definitely be sore. I bet Oliver had his head tilted an odd way when chewing at one point and that may have done it.
So glad he is feeling better. My jaw used to lock open when I was a kid because I'd lay on my bed with a comic book on the floor and lay with my weight on my jaw (duh). This is the first time I"d heard of a pupper doing it though I'd be interested to hear what the vet dentist has to say Teresa.
Thanks Teresa that would be great, I have it on one side myself and have to tell dentists etc, never thought of that but that would explain it.
