Okay, I thought getting these results would help me out, but they only scared us. What they found was so alarming that the vet called me immediately last night at 8pm and demamded to see Porky. They found no virus indication, but did find he had some kind of toxin in his blood!! The vet asked me to bring in a small sample of everyting Porky has eaten for the last week. They are going to send Porky's food and treats into a lab and have them tested to see if one of them is the culprit. They also took some more blood from Porky to check his levels now and try and find an indication of what it was.
We are pretty sure Porky is totally out of the woods, now since he is feeling better, but we have stopped his food completely and have him on a different kind from the vet until the results come back. While I'm waiting for the results, I'm supposed to be thinking if I used any cleaning chemicals around him that he may have licked up, and try to come up with any possible ideas. I'm at a loss since I only use natural cleaners and always have Porky in his kennel when I do clean with anything, even lemon!
The vet asked for a rush on the results, so hopefully it won't take long and they provide some answers. The vet said he was happy he had them run the toxicity tests because he almost didn't. We were so sure it was just a virus. No one has access to Porky except for me and my husband so I know no one delibratly did something to him. I'm freaking out right now! As long as his symptoms are gone, I'm going to try not to worry too much.
Gee I hope the do find out what it is or was that is scary almost makes you want to make your own food since it seems like dog food companies can not be trusted any more. I know allot of people on Doberman talk fed raw but I'm sure that is expensive then you have to worry about the raw too.The germs on raw can sometimes make them sick too now days you just do not know what to do. Please keep us posted what have you been feeding?Papbouv

We don't think its the food, but are testing it as a precaution. We don't want to miss anything! The vet said he seriously doubted it was the food, but that's step one in trying to figure out the cause. I'm not going to name the food until we find out for sure that is what happened. They haven't had any other reports of dogs getting sic of this batch of food, so its looking like the food is not the culprit. We should know about the food in two days since they are doing a rush on those tests.
:xfinger: :xfinger: I sure hope you all find out what the problem is fast. Sending rays for a speedy solution. Keep us posted, please.

That is so scary Amorette!!! Here's hoping :xfinger: you find out the results very fast and get a solution to this problem! Let us know what it was ASAP!!
What a scare! Could it have been something sprayed in the park or on one of his walks? Just a thought since our little fellows are very close to the ground....Islay once had weepy eyes and was queasy after a walk in grass which we - later - found out had been sprayed. Similar thing happened to Red who got swollen paws after the Town Hall "cleaned" the pavements.
Here´s hoping it was something simple and has got out of his system already.
Please give Porky an extra specially warm Spanish snuggle from all of us.
That's wild poor Porky! I wonder what it could have been, thank goodness he's getting better. That would have scared the heck out of me too. I hope you find the source so you don't have to worry about what it was, sounds like Porky has a great vet! Keep us posted on the little guy.
are you in new construction? the only thing I can think of is maybe off-gassing from new carpets (formeldehyde!!!) or some sort of glue used in countertops for the Formica or something. How weird. Environmental. huh.
Curious to hear the results. Lead dog toys from China? I am sure you are wracking your brain.
Or any possibility he's been gnashing on leaded paint around the house? I understand it tastes sweet--that why kids used to eat paint chips.
po Porky! What an unexpected result! Are they thinking nuerotoxin? That points to insecticide or mouse bait or heavy metal.
rays goin' out to you all.
Poor Porky!! Here is wishing you a speedy recovery and no more yuckies :comfort:
Hope Porky continues to improve. Is he a licker? I mean, does he lick he couch? Lick the carpet? When you moved into your apt, could they have cleaned the carpet with something less than natural, but it tastes really good to a dachsie? Just a thought.
Thank you everyone for your well wishes!!! Porky is still doing just fine and we think we found the source, we're just waiting on the blood tests to confirm it. They were able to save a little blood from the first sample and are going to use that to see if its what we suspect it to be. All signs of the toxicity were out of his blood the second time they took it. (Thursday night) :apls: We are sure Porky is going to be okay now, but I was very angry when I found out the source.
I was talking to my landlord outside yesterday and mentioned that Porky hadn't felt well all week. She instant'y said, "Oh, wonder if it could be that fertilizer I put down Sunday?" :BangHead: My immediate response was what kind was it, and why didn't she bother to notify the people and pets living here. Her response was, "Well I thought the maintenance man said he was using the eco-friendly kind!" She apologized up and down, and gave us a month free rent, and is going to pay all the vet bills. She also is going to send out notes in the future at least a day in advance so this never happens again. She begged to see Porky to make sure he was okay. When she saw him she started crying because she felt so bad. She is very worried we were going to sue or move out.
Porky is still acting a little more tired than usual but has no other symptoms. :apls: The vet said Porky is sleeping more to help his body heal from the fertilizer. He also assured me that Porky is out of the woods now since he has made it this far. None of the other dogs living here have had any symptoms (and some are smaller than Porky!) so we're guessing Porky may have licked the ground. :doah:
Gosh - that is VERY scary. Will be anxious to see what they come up with. More rays on the way for good measure !
Glad you found out what it was more Rays can't hurt more Rays from us too.
Rays for Porky. Hope the worst is over.
OH MY GOSH!!!! AT LEAST SHE IS TAKING OWNERSHIP....AND SHE SHOULD FEEL BAD!! I guess she is not a pet owner or she would be known? So glad you found out the source and Porky is going to be just fine!!!!!
I know how scary that sort of thing is. Cajsa got into rat poison when she wa sa puppy and we never found the source. We just had the blood tests and symptoms to prove it. It was awful not knowing and having the furbaby be so sick. Glad Porky is doing so much better and you found out the cause.
Glad to hear Porky is doing better and you found out what it was. I don't like to hear when our little babies are sick and not doing good.
I am so happy he is going to be ok. Get lots of rest Porky. Romeo says hi and get better
hugs and love laura and Romeo
:comfort: :comfort:     :bandaid:
