Title: Patches has decided not to come?
Post by: papbouv on May 07, 2009, 09:33:45 PM
Patches has always had a great recall she was 3 years old in January for the last 3 weeks she will not come when I call her???? With summer coming and hubby not the most observant person around I'm scared she will take off if the gate is open when he goes to mow the front yard. I have told him a million times put the dogs in the house when he is going to mow, sometimes he does sometimes not. I always am up beat when I call the dogs try to give treats most of the time they always get allot of praise.Come is too important to mess with I have to go get Patches and carry her outside do not know what is up with her. She is also moaning type sigh from time to time this is new too she eats great, pees and poo's fine will play ball when I play with Buddy.Patches will not fetch the ball on her own she runs after Buddy when I throw the ball. She barks at me so I hold Buddy throw the ball for her she goes after it brings it to her spot and rolls on her back and plays with the ball? Then  gets distracted  goes off sniffing so I send Buddy to bring back the ball.
Any ideas on how to get her back on track to come???Papbouv

Whitney wouldn't come when she was called either so I "clicker trained" her so she comes everytime I click cause she knows there a "treat" for her.  I bought the clicker and then in the house I went room to room clicking it and gave her a "good" treat everytime she came, then I went outside and did it until she came every time she heard the sound.   :apls:

We'll have to give the clicker a try I think.  Porky always comes for me, but never does for my hubby.   :dontknow: Guess he's a mama's boy?    advice.   Good Luck with  Maybe Patches is not hearing very well??    :dontknow:  I would see if your vet could check her hearing.   The moaning could be a sign of hearing loss.  My best friends dog went deaf at age 5 and he would moan quite a bit as he was losing his hearing.  I hope that's not what's happening with Patches!!   Keep us posted.

Patches never moaned until after the bout at the ER when she they thought she found a pill and ate it seems like after she came home she does the moaning every once in awhile. She eats fine, pee's & poo's fine, acts normal figured next time we go to the vet's I would ask.I will also ask about the hearing thing but she seems to hear every little thing especially a food wraper.
