Title: Max: "My toes have been chopped off"
Post by: David C. on October 19, 2005, 09:05:40 PM
Max here:

You'd think my Dad would let me just snooze in peace after Jessica goes to bed.   After all, being poked and chased by a 2 year old isn't exactly what a senior weiner does for fun.   At least I get to lick her feet, though.   Ah, but I digress.

So, it's night and I'm finally supposed to get some peace.  WRONG!   Last night Dad poked Q-tips into my ears and tried to clean my teeth.   It's no fun getting teeth cleaned anymore, so I really don't let him do it.  Dad even tries to floss the remaining two upper front teeth that I have left.

Then tonight, Dad broke out the Dremel and began to chop my toes off!   I thought I got a reprieve when the battery died.  No such luck.  After 30 minutes on the charger Dad was chopping my toes off again.

So now, I'm just complaining, but I'm tired...so tired...and sleepy...and....ZZZZZZZZZZ

Dad here:   It's funny.  Max never used to mind getting his teeth OR his toes done.  As of late, though, he has really fought me hard (especially on the teeth) on both.  I guess some of this can be attributed to his advanced age (next Thursday, he will be 16 years and 8 months), but it's definitely an odd change of behavior.

He seems to be getting along a bit better with Jessica.  Max will still throw his head at her when she starts to get too rough with him, but he is not growling or showing teeth.   I still won't tolerate that behavior and Max knows it.  Even before I am about to grab him and scold him, he begins to whine.   We're also still working with Jessica on "nice doggy", but she doesn't quite get it yet.  Many times, when we see trouble brewing, we'll extricate Max from the situation.  He seems to appreciate it, almost like he's waiting for us to pick him up.

We feel your pain, ol' man.  At least he didn't add a butt squeeze to your humiliation.  Sounds like you're whipping that youngin' into shape too.  Attaboy!

Dang dude - we feel your pain too........just when WE think we are going to get to relax in the back yard - with the nice warm sun shinin' down...but its not too hot....mama thinks THAT is the perfect time to dremel our toes and clean our teeth.  She THINKS it is easier outside because the warm lulls us to relax.......NOT - we let her know that we just want to enjoy and not be worked on !!!!!

Glad you are getting along with the hu-kid - she will learn to not push it with you....but glad dad and mom are there to step in and save ya !!!!

Oh well, sounds like yours and our body maintenance is done for a while...at least a week anyho !!!!

Title: Woobie vs. Child
Post by: Eileen on October 20, 2005, 01:54:49 PM
Wow, David.  Sounds like you've got it all under control, though, the balance between the woobie and the child.  Good for you!  I tried a dremmel, also, but the only one who would tolerate it is little Kleine, and the last thing I am worrying about right now is her nails!!  You have been doing something right to have a woobie live to such a ripe age.  I only hope and pray mine will make it that long......
