Title: Funny Hallie story
Post by: Dee Dee and Hallie on April 21, 2009, 11:59:53 AM
For some reason Hallie doesn't really like to be upstairs in my art studio with me. She always has to be right with me...and she has toys, 2 soft beds and another in a crate on top of a table next to me so she can look out the window (she lets me know when she wants in and out) but she will try to convince me to go downstairs with her while I"m painting. I'm not sure why that is. But if she doesn't settle I usually take her back down.

So I just ran up there to find a book I needed, and took her with me. The door to the stairs was open which I NEVER leave open while I"m up painting with her. I can't imagine her ever going up or down the stairs anyway but I would rather take the option out of the equation. But it was open this time since I was not going to paint right then and just getting the book. So Hallie was standing about 3-4 feet from the door opening, sideways to it facing me. She will plant herself there when the door is closed and just stare and whine softly at me when she wants down but like I said the door is always closed.

So she was standing there staring at me and I patted my leg and said "Come here!" in a happy voice. She was frozen and didn't move. So I said it again and this time she did one of those movie things where you walk into someones house and they are standing there not moving with a frantic look in their eyes and you say what's wrong and they don't move but they dart their eyes to the side to tell you there is a guy in the next room with a gun...all I could see was the whites of her eyes they were turned so far in the socket, then she'd look back at me all without moving. We repeated that at least 6-7 times, she'd always do the eye thing on the second time I called her. You could tell she was thinking I want to come but I really want you to take me downstairs...which should I do...

I finally had to stop because she had me rolling I doubt I'll get lucky enough to video it but I"m going to try and get her to do it again.

Ah, isn't the sun fantastic right now?  I've spent part of the last two days on the hammock, tossing the ball for Winston while the others sleep under the hammock in the shade.  It's been just gorgeous and I LOVE it!

Gorgeous pictures (of course) !  Funny Hallie - but maybe not so funny after all....maybe there IS something there that she is feeling?  Interesting !

Glad to see you both out enjoying the sunshine. They are funny when they want something and want it NOW. As Barb says maybe there is something there, but it is probably "I don't like you working, I'd rather you dedicated your time to ME"

Give Ms H a cuddle from down under

That seems to be a female dachshund trait.   Zora has exhibited simlar behavior, albeit under much difference circumstances.   Zeke, on the other hand (as well as Rudy or Max) will eagerly respond to their master's voice, even if it means going somewhere they don't want to be.

David you may be right. Amy is totally focused on me, but if she thinks, if I ask her to come, I might come her way she will just sit, with the "why expend energy your gonna come here anyway", Oliver will always come. Maybe females are more cunning.

Great Miss Hallie story.  Good luck on trying to video it, but would love it if you did.  As always your pictures are great.  We've had nothing but rain for the past four days, I am ready for some sun.  Today though we are suppose to see it.  Thanks for the pics.

Great Hallie story and beautiful Hallie pictures as always :apls: :apls:  Whenever I am in the spare bedroom working with my desktop computer Zoe will come down the hallway, stop at the door and bark at me to come out into the livingroom and pay attention to her.  I truly believe they don't want us to work and want us to spend time with them!!
