Title: Update on Snikers
Post by: PattyInAK on April 12, 2009, 04:22:56 PM
Snikers owner called me Friday evening, a rescue outfit came and picked him up, along with all his stuff......toys, bed, bowls.  The transfer went well.  I cried after I hung up the phone.  I guess I was seeing from the point of view of someone who would never, ever give up their doxie.  But then I thought about it and if it wasn't for people like this gal, who contacted me and other rescuers, a whole lot of us wouldn't have had the opportunity to adopt the rescues we have/had in our lives.  I would have never been blessed with Misty had her former owners just taken her to animal control.  And I can think of several other folks here who have benefited from adopting a rescue because someone cared enough to get them in the rescue system.......Barb with Rudy and Brandy, DD with Hallie, and so many, many others.  I know Snikers will find a good home, he is so darned cute.  The rescue outfit and his former owner both are in Anchorage and the former owner will keep tabs on him until he is secure in a new home, and she will keep me in the loop.

You are absolutely right Patty (and don't forget my Toby, who was tied to a tree with a piece of wire and Gulf Coast Dachshund Rescue rescued him !!!!).  At least they have a chance, if a rescue org takes them in.  It is always sad to hear that a baby has to leave the home they have known, but they WILL find a new one!  I am so glad they contacted you and you hooked them up !

Thanks you guys.  The former owner has been in touch with the foster mom and with me.  Snikers is doing well.  He is in that phase where he keeps waiting for the former owners to come back.  I have a hard time getting past the part where the little dog has been taken from his home and he doesn't understand why.  I picture Willy and Alex in that situation and just torture myself.  I do know that people who foster have very big hearts.

Patty, do not worry about Snikers.

Cocoa  :angel4: Lady :angel4: Bambam :angel4: :angel4:

And current rescue siblings Dottie, Patches and Judy (the Darfur doxie from Texas) can all verify that rescue does work!!! :thumb:

That breaks my heart too especially at his age...I know we shouldn't judge but...I just can't imagine.

Is his name Snikers like rhymes with "Bikers" or is it Snickers like the candy bar?

I know many rescue dogs that are happy and thriving in their forever homes.      You did the right thing and I just KNOW he will find a home quick.  With his face, he's irresistible.

I hope Snikers finds a forever home very soon - it certainly sounds like that's a good possibility - it breaks my heart, too, thinking of the dog, taken from the place and people he knows and loves, and not understanding why.  But thank goodness for rescue and for foster moms and dads, and thank goodness for the resilience of dogs and their ability to live in the moment, because someday Snikers will be part of a new family and be a very happy Wiener!

*hugs*
Title: Foster? What's a foster?
Post by: Dianne on April 17, 2009, 07:53:10 PM
If a doxie comes here; he or she stays here.  Cocoa was our first, a puppy mill rescue at 1 year old.  As she aged, we kept adopting older and older dogs.  So, when she was 5 we got Ladybug (also 5) and Bambam that nobody wanted because he was 9 years old!  He was with us 5 years, Lady was 9 more years.  Patches was 8 when he joined us before Lady passed (we knew she was going downhill and we didn't want Cocoa alone).  Cocoa passed when Patches was 11 and then we got Dottie, aged 8, because Patches was lonely.  Six months later Judy, the Darfur Doxie from Texas joined the crew.  Now, Patches is 12 and Dottie is 9 and we have Judy...the youngster and the only doxie that we have had that barks!

The Vet says that if he is re-incarnated he wants to come back as one of our dogs  :thumb:

There is no dog that will love you more than a senior!
