I just talked to a lady form the ASPCA and she was telling me (and I was reading it yesterday on the internet) that record numbers of animals are being turned in by owners to shelters. Most have been hit by the hard economic times and can no longer care for their pets. In my neighborhood we are seeing dumped animals everday. If you are able, please donate money, food, bedding, anything to your local shelters and rescue groups or to the ASPCA. They are trying hard to help these poor abandoned pets and are being stretched to their limits. I know that all of us would love to help in whatever way we can. I upped my monthly donation to the ASPCA and have placed several abandoned animals with rescue groups just recently. On behalf of all the lost ones, I thank you in advance for your help and if you are already helping a great big thanks!

Our local Foxy Doxy Dachshund Rescue has been exploding with people wanting to abandon their dachshunds because times are tough. One of our placed dogs (in a super good home now) was found by a cleaning crew in an apartment that was vacated and empty for at least a week. Desperate people do desperate things, I guess. It's sad.
It is very sad indeed. Thanks for the reminder - there is stuff I can surely do without...................
Not sure how common this is but our local animal shelter AND the one food pantry are joining together so people can also donate food to the pantry for people's pets! So in a sense this is to help people KEEP their pets rather than surrender them!!
I am hoping this is going to happen more often in other locations too!!
