Most of you know that Porky and I went to visit my parents yesterday. When we got there, Bandit happily greeted me, but he looked odd to me. I started petting his neck and it seemed a little swollen. Then right under his collar I found a lump. It was under the skin, hard, and right on his lymph node. I showed it to my mom and she immediately called the vet. The vet got him in right away and did some blood tests on the little guy. They told my mom and I to go run some errands while they checked him. (They knew we would hate to hear him cry when they did that.)
When we got back, they were hesitant to tell my mom that it is likely that it is cancer. The vet was very gentle about telling her. He told her that they drew blood to check for any abnormalities and that there was a possibility it was cancer. We are waiting on pins and needles to find out. Bandit is acting okay, he has had some gagging/vomitting issues because the lump is the size of a walnut. He is also not quite himself. He is more mellow than usual and gets worn out easily.
I am so sad about this. The weird thing is, as soon as I first saw him yesterday, I got the feeling that something was majorly wrong. I have no idea how I knew, I just did. I'm preparing myself to hear the cancer diagnosis, because I'm sure it is coming. Bandit is 8 years old and a fighter, so I'm hoping he can beat this.
I cried all night long about our sweet boy. The thing that worried me the most was this: Everytime we're at the vet and Bandit is waiting on the table, he growls as soon as he sees the vet. Yesterday, Nothing, he just laid down. Even the vet said, "Hey buddy, no growl today?!" And the vet went back down the hallway to see if Bandit would growl the second time. When he came back all Bandit did was make a little grunt. The vet's expression told me he was worried too.
Bandit could use any spare rays you have. I'll let you all know as soon as we get the results. It should be this afternoon sometime. Until then, I'm trying to keep busy.
