This one is a good rule for multiple dachshund families. The first dachshund to get into a sleeping spot gets to sleep however she wants. When the other dachshund shows, he has to figure out what to do in order not to disturb the first dachshund.
Dad here: That is a typical scenario around here. Zora will retreat to her create and spread herself out right in the middle. When Zeke arrives, he has two options, neither of them are good. He can either scrunch himself at the front of the crate against the door, or he has to leap over Zora (inside the crate no less) and then scrunch himself in the back. Zeke usually takes the third option: He just sits outside the crate and barks at Zora until Zora moves. If Zora doesn't move, he usually leaps and then slowly pushes her until he is comfortable. That's pretty remarkable considering Zeke has a definite size and strength advantage. If he really wanted to, he could just bully Zora out of the way. When push comes to shove, though, he does defer to her.

What would Zora do if you got a slightly larger crate? more room for both???
We have similar except its that Oliver HAS to sleep in his spot. My pair sleep in their own bed next to my side of the bed and Oliver has always wanted the bit right next to me. If they go out in the middle of the night and she gets in his space he just sits a winges.

Wish I could put a picture up of Zeke, Zelda and Twinkie years ago. Let's just say, if the 2 Z's were already snuggled up in the not real big doggy bed, Twinkie WAS known to park in the top layer!! The little twerp had a strange way of getting in there and it took a long time to figure out why and how. She would go veer to the left and get her front part of her body on the little hassock next to the bed, and then she would back in, sorta like backing a truck into a dock! Poor Zeke often tended to be the bottom deck of that 2 deck bed!!! Finally figured out that by backing in she was avoiding going nose to nose with Zelda(her real daughter but they did NOT recongize each other) and BOTH liked to be Queen BEE!!
