Just found this board. My husband and I are owned by Baron Beaner Von Wiener ("Beaner"), a nearly 14 y.o. male red smooth hair mini doxie. I have two children, but Beaner is my third child
My first Doxie was a rescued male black & tan mini named Alec who went to Rainbow Bridge in the 90s - we still miss him.
Doxies are the most loyal, loving, sweetest dogs in the world and the only dog I will ever own. During my pregnancy with my son, I had "spotting issues" and had to have total bedrest for about a month. My first Doxie Alec KNEW something was wrong and all that month he laid in bed with me, protectively curled around my stomach, protecting my son. After my son was born, Alec was SO gentle and patient with him - it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about that darling dog.
Beaner is starting to have geriatric issues and I hope I can turn to this board for answers!

Welcome! So glad you found the board! can't wait to hear more about your furkid! I love his name!
Pam, welcome, welcome, welcome! We are so glad you found us. My name is Cheryl and I am owned and loved by two red smooth tweenies named Zoe (6) and Winston (will be 5 in April). We would love to see pictures of Beaner and the family. I have a niece that recently moved to Madison, Wisconsin last year. I have never been there yet but I have heard it is absolutely gorgeous there!!
Hi Pam. Welcome to the Board. I am owned by Clifford. He will be 15 in May and is a smooth salt and (cayenne) pepper tweenie at 14.5 lbs. We live just south of Aurora IL. Clifford can relate to the geriatic issues as well as making it through 3 disk operations. Ask away and someone will probably have an answer if not 15 others as well. We look forward to hearing about Beaner and Alec.
Pictures are always welcomed...
Howdy Pam!
We're glad you're here! I love your wiener's name, Beaner. That's cute! I'm Sandi, owned by 11 years old Madison and 9 year old Bonnie. Both of my girls are b/t smoothie minis.
Welcome from Oklahoma I'm owned by a Long Haired Tweenie Red girl Patches & a honorary Doxie a Black & Rust Doberman Buddy.
Thank you for your welcomes!
Beaner has had back issues in the past, but only needed to go the steroid route, thank goodness! No surgeries.
His current issue is excessive thirst. I took him to the vet and they did blood and urine work on him, and x-rays, but found nothing abnormal; no diabetes, no kidney problems, etc. In fact they said he was in very good shape for a dog his age! The vet could only chalk up his sudden onset of excessive thirst to "old age". Beaner will actually bark at us to fill his water dish, which he's never done before. He's also never woke us up in the middle of the night to go potty, but now, 3 a.m., like clockwork . . . . Of course, because he's drinking so much water, he's peeing more, and he's losing control of his bladder because of his age so he's having a LOT of accidents in the house. I don't know what to do! Should I not give him water after 7 p.m.? I don't want to harm his kidneys, but he'll let me know in no uncertain terms that his water dish is empty!
I should change his name to Beaner Piddle Pants!
(I tried to post a photo but it kept saying my file was too large, even though I reduced it 3 times!!)
You may have to go to the belly band route to help keep him from peeing every where. My Old Papillon Gizmo had to wear diapers the last two years of her life poor little thing had Doggie Alzheimer's she was 14 & 1/2 years old just quit eating, got lost in the house, did not know us & grooming terrified her it was really sad.Hope your boy may cut out the water for your sakes as well as his so everyone can make it though the night.
The way I did the diaper s on Gizmo bought the washable kind found human pantliners that would fit them then every time I changed her used baby wipes the unscented kind to keep her really clean.Good luck with your old boy. Papbouv
Preemie diapers also fit well, and you just cut a hole in the back for the tail.
Welcome to our board!! I'm sorry I missed this one, I always forget to check out the welcome section. :doah: I love Beaner's name. I am owned by a black, tan and white Piebald named Porky Pie Bow. Porky gets into lots of trouble, but I love him like crazy!
Welcome to the board. I am owned by a naughty little shaded red mini named Paker. It's interesting that your pup is Beaner, it's one of the 3 names we had picked for Parker. It was going to be Beanner, Frankie or Parker. Our grandson decided that Peter Parker it was. We got Parker when he was about 7 months, and he will be 2 in June.
I had a senior dog, but don't have much advice as our Eddie became very ill, and passed away very suddenly with no "old age" issues.
I know everything there is to know about allegies, vegetarian dogs, anal gland infections, anal surgery, and ear infections.
Anyways, welcome.....Kelly
