Okay, I decided to try my hand at making my two boys' harnesses. I altered a pattern to fit what I wanted to have for the boys. This is my prototype and I plan to make another set and fine tune them even more. I have taken the boys on walks since finishing them on Saturday and they love them.....They now associate harnesses with walks, come to me when they see I have them in my hand, sit down and let me put them on and then their leashes. Of course, getting a decent picture of them together is another story. So here are a few pictures that I took....as I said, I am going to make another set with adjustments that I want to make. I want to move the snaps so that they close on the side rather than the front and underside.

And, yes, Sarge is on a diet......and IS losing weight. The feet in the doorway belong to Dave and the gate is set up on the front deck. That way, when it's decent out, we can open the door for fresh air and they boys can go out on the front deck. I took the pictures looking down on the dogs holding two leashes in one hand and a camera in the other!

 I know we're not supposed to overfeed our puppers, and we're not supposed to encourage overeating, BUT . . .
If Sarge isn't the cutest 'lil bucket of pudge on the planet, then I don't know what cute is!!
Auntie Karen
You know, I just LOVE strong, handsome, well built puppers! Are you spoken for, Sweet Cakes???
Ima :bkiss:
Great job Dee!! I love those harnesses. The boys look great in them and they look comfy. So...when can we order ours? :dontknow:
Real SNAZZY!
Are you reinforcing the D ring as if it was Ollie it would be ripped out. But I have to say theya re dog on cute. And sargie you are just heavy boned.
Roberta
Well done Dee! You are really nifty with the needle, they look ever so cute and comfy. Islay could wear a lace harness and still be safe, Red needs a reinforced D-ring, triple-fabric harness and snaps for safety and a strong leather lead when he pulls like crazy at the beginning of his walk.
Good luck with the diet for Sarge, I feel his pain as the winter stodge and goodies have stuck to me too, we´re back on 7km walks every day to get fitter again as I find walking easier than missing out on cooking and eating.....it´s rotten having a tall, slim husband who never puts on an inch and eats everything. I have a dachsie figure too: short legs, long body and a tendency for the weight to "sink".
Dee, I just love these harnesses. You did a wonderful job. They look so airy and comfortable!! Yes, when can we order ours??
Great job, Dee. Loved the pictures of the boys.

Great pics.
Dieting is an ongoing process with a dachshund. Between Rudy, Max and Zora, I was able to shed 14 pounds between the three of them (Rudy 6, Max 5 and Zora 3), enough to make an entire dachshund. It takes a lot of patience, a lot of discipline and the ability to ignore "the look". It took me one or two years to whittle Rudy down from 18 to 15, and then when we found he was hypothyroid, it ran him down to 12. Max took about a year to lose the 5 pounds. We got Zora to lose the three pounds in about 6 to 7 months.
We still watch what Zora eats. Given her druthers, she'd eat her portion and Zeke's portion and be very happy.
If you notice Zeke is not on this list. He is about 15 pounds and I'd like him to get up to 17 or 18 pounds, but he just will have none of it. He's the first dachshund I've ever come across who just doesn't get motivated by food. Zeke would much rather be pet than go try to snarf something off the ground.
I have made Gunner and Petunia's harnesses for over 4 years and you have done a great job. If you haven't I would reinforce around the D-Ring though.
The harness look great!! Way to go on your diet Sarge!! :hello2:
